Golf Monthly has teamed up with Stromberg to bring you an exciting opportunity to receive a free swing assessment from a renowned tour coach AND a goodie bag of clothing and shoes worth £250!

On November 26th, we’re inviting golfers along to indoor golf venue HUKD in Bury (BL9 5AE) for the chance to try an innovative new pair of golf shoes launching in 2026.

Under the watchful eye of Dr Paul Hurrion, a biomechanics expert who has coached multiple tour pros including Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood and Padraig Harrington, you will receive some pointers on how to improve your swing as well as some performance data on how the new shoes compare to your current pair.

Stromberg is confident you will see gains in both distance and dispersion in just five shots!

Those selected to take part will also receive a Stromberg goodie bag including two polos and a mid layer, which along with the shoes makes the total prize worth £250.

All you need to do to register your interest is email joel.tadman@futurenet.com with the following information:

Name
Age
Handicap
Location
Shoe size
Apparel size

You will need to be able to make your own way to HUKD in Bury on November 26th for a time slot lasting roughly 45 minutes. Some of those who attend will be required to talk about your experience on camera for Golf Monthly video content and also permit images of you being taken for the magazine.

Thanks and good luck!

Sorted and if successful I can nip to Bury Market whilst up there and get my Xmas Provsions as well. 😄👍

Oven bottom muffins, Vanilla slice, Manchester tart, Lancashire crumbly, bury black pudding. Uncle Joes Mint balls. Everyone is an aphrodisiac 😍

I had a mixed grill down fish alley in Fuengirola to celebrate my birthday a few weeks back, and it did include a black pudding sausage...

I was impressed.

I used to work in a mill in Bury, and never in my days did I expect to see the words "stopping overnight in Bury". ...

Bury market be worth a visit, you'll get your black pudding there as well Tashy. (y)
The plan is to park up in Bury near prem in on Tuesday, tram into Manchester for the Xmas market. Tram back into Bury. A night in the glorious Wetherspoons.
Check out. Tash has his analysis ( god help him analysing me), catch up with Missis Tash at some point, help load her bags into car and depart.
Got to say I am really looking forward to it. 👍

A follow up on this, it happened yesterday. The venue is a fun place, similar to the darts / bowling set ups you see in city centres now. Multiple trackman booths, bar and food. All warm and pleasant.

The idea of the session soon became clear. Stromberg are launching a new shoe that is designed to turn, twist and grip in a way that helps stability, allow power to transfer etc. Not a flat sole that is uniform, thought and technology has gone into the sole. We were to take shots wearing a pair of the new shoes and also wearing a pair of summer Greg Norman shoes. We would hit shots and the data would show the differences.

We were asked to hit first of all with a 7 iron, then driver.

We were stood on a pressure pad and this data was combined with the trackman figures.

The Stromberg shoes were very impressive. Comfortable straight away, solid, secure when you swung a club. Clearly the best test is 18 holes walking but these felt good. The Greg Norman shoes were like slippers. Soooo soft and comfortable. I'd happily wear them outside of golf. On the course, nope. Too soft, didn't give support.

Here is the kicker though, because of my lack of weight transfer, oops, my numbers were near identical. Not the fault of the shoe, that's me. The pressure pad showed this perfectly 🫣. Luckily for me, the coach was able to make suggestions as to how I can improve this. I've got something to aim for now, to work on over winter.

There was no swing assesment, something was lost in translation there. This was solely about your feet.

I was not required for interview. I heard as I was warming up that people from the morning session had given enough to fulfill the requirement there. That could well mean @Tashyboy made the cut as far as a bid for fame was concerned 😄.

I can't tell you about the free gear as it was not handed out on the day. I presume that is sent on at a later date. @MarkT is that about right?

In summary, I enjoyed the session, the shoes felt very good and whether you buy into the marketing, they looked nice and felt very comfortable. Worth looking at when they are released.

In addition to what LT has said. I quite enjoyed the day. When I was interviewed re what I look for in a shoe. It’s Looks, cost and comfort. If there expensive it ain’t happening, ugly nope, uncomfortable nope. But having worn them for 18 holes today.Without a shadow of a doubt they are the comfiest pair I have ever worn. I was advised to try and wear them in, I didn’t. They were uber comfy. More on that later.
The day itself, I tried out the summer shoes, the fitting went well. But I was given a pair of winter shoes to try when leaving.
What I will say is that for an 18.3 handicapper I hit the ball well. It was slightly strange because as you were stood on a pressure pad it felt the ball was below the feet. There’s not a lot to add to what Lt has generalised on, but re me there is something a bit different.
When it was explained to me re the design of the shoes, as LT has said, the sole is not just one piece. It has different areas with different support areas, especially the outer edge of the shoe. And for me that is paramount. I have had the outer left ankle ligament snapped years ago. I honestly would go over on my ankle looking at my shadow. The news that the good looking shoe supports my “ weak” spot was music to my ears.
Now the odd thing was Dr Hurrion when he looked at my foot pressure readings. He mentioned that my outer left ankle literally floats, there is hardly any pressure applied to that area when transferring weight from the back swing to the downswing. The thought process is that I am still protecting my ankle which is fully repaired. 😳
It was something which the stromberg guys picked up on when I was interviewed.
Like I say when I left, they swopped the summer shoes for the winter ones. The main difference being the winter shoes have 5 cleats/ spikes. They also mentioned they will forward some gear at a later date.
So today I rocked up at the golf with me new shoes on. The fuddle lads, and there was 18 of us. They loved the looks. They smiled about them being white, but they do do other colours. They were fantastically comfy. If there is one thing that I have never come across. The grip is absolutely phenomenal, but what it does do also is pick up every bloody leaf on the course. I lost count the amount of times I cleaned the soles. That though is not a year round problem.
Now the guys that did the testing session have been sworn to the official secrets act, we cannot post any photos until March 1st which is a shame. But one of the lads hit the nail on the head.
Why release a winter shoe in Spring. Maybe they are next years but they are well worth the wait.
When I went into the pro shop before today’s round, the shop pro remarked on my nice new shoes. He was astonished to see they were Strombergs which he has enjoyed wearing in the past.
Now if you had asked me some time back about wearing shoes I would have gone for a “label” pair. My go to at the moment are Ecco goretex. They are bullet proof. But when it comes to style and comfort. These Strombergs are miles ahead.

Lastly, when I was hitting with the driver, the ball seemed to be teed up higher than my normal ball. The first one I nailed it. The second one I topped it, it hit a beam on the roof, flew back and missed me by 2 foot. Bounced on the floor. On Dr Hurrions table, missed his glass by inches and he caught it. 😖
I looked back and said “ should I play a provisional”. 😄

I will post updates if and when required.

Our pro has said Under Armour are launching something similar using very high tech measuring devices, lmuch ike the Stromberg set up I believe.

He went to a central UA assessment centre where they do something like this for pro footballers' boots, and sounds like golf pro shops can have a scaled down system in the shop. Apparently being launched for next season.
