Wilson staff irons

I invested in some C200 irons a few weeks ago. Only had one round with them, and a few hits at the range. Decent clubs, and fantastic value for money.

Wilson Staff irons have 61 major wins apparently but last one was Paddy Harrington in 2008.

It is worth remembering that the company is not the same as the one that made the clubs back in the day.

I have had various Wilson Staff irons through the years and have always found them good.

The chroming on the modern forged clubs was the only thing I could fault.

Their FG tour series hybrids were great.

Just today was asked by a guy I know in my local American Golf to try the D7 irons. Only had my Mizuno 6 iron with me so compared it with the Wilson 7 iron, which had about the same loft. The results were dramatic, the Wilson was carrying a good 15 - 20 yards longer & felt great, good dispersion too. I struggle to get decent distance with my irons & went from having no thoughts of changing to going for a proper fitting. At £389 for 5 iron to PW they're outstanding value. Hmm.

I'm playing Wilson Staff D350 irons. Power irons, or whatever it's called. My 9 iron is basically a regular 8 iron, my 8 iron a 7 iron etc... I really like them. When I bought them I tested them and a set of Callaway in the same price bracket (around 400, so yeah, on the cheaper side), but the Wilson felt a lot better. Only thing I can fault is that 2 weeks ago, when hitting my 6-iron, it just said swoosh and my club head landed about 50 yards down the fairway. They are custom fitted, and I changed the club head lie on them. Don't know if the change of lie could've caused it to break, but not even had them for a year yet. Guess it could've happen to any club really, no matter what brand. It's been sent back to be repaired now though.

I'm eyeing a set of Wilson Staff V6. Looks great and have only read positive things about them.

He uses a Wilson Staff putter as well which you can pick up for about £60-70. Rare you see a pro using a Wilson putter...

I just bought a Wilson Staff Grant Park putter new for £72. Only reason was trying it out in American Golf and it felt great!

I use the c200s 4-pw love them, traded up from tm speedblades and glad I did, Wilson are superb value
Gary woodland has signed with wilson not so long ago and seems to be doing well with them

The most underrated undervalued golf brand around, my bag is top to toe Wilson Staff bar my putter, C300 Driver, FG TOUR F5 Fairway, Hybrid and Irons and 3 PMP wedges, I tried everything the last time I changed my Irons and the Forged Wilson’s were the best I could find. They are a superb maker of Irons, just look at those new staff model blades and tell me what looks better than those? Admittedly their drivers are not quite there yet but I can out drive my playing partners M4 with ease with the C300 and the new Cortex is meant to be a beast.

I may look to upgrade my Irons this year and I will definitely not be moving from Wilson Staff, the V6s (which Rick Shiels uses) and the C300 Forged are my main targets.
Cannot recommend this brand highly enough, I even am bidding on an 8802 putter at the minute as they just look so damn nice

I think it's fair to say there is plenty of decent equipment about that doesn't cost fortunes.

Certainly I have had great experience with Cleveland, which is probably in that same tier as Wilson in that a few tour players use it, but it's not one of the 'premium' products.

I guess it is easy for companies to go to the 'reassuringly expensive' price point, and that does seem that more companies are pushing the prices, despite the tech gains being less beneficial.

Brands like Wilson don't market there products like the more expensive brand, but there is no less quality or tech, best thing anyone can do is try them out

I bought the FG Tour irons when the reintroduced them back around 2009-2010 I think. Believe they are now upto V6. They are without doubt the best irons I’ve ever owned. Every year I’ve tested them against new offerings from titleist, mizuno, callaway etc. None produce any significant gains or feel like the FG tours. I am going to find it hard to change, but have worn the grooves to within an inch of their life over the the last 9 years. Can only see me getting another set of Wilson’s as they are also great value for money against the others.
I think Gary Woodland is playing the next FG Tour prototypes right now, and won or came 2nd with them? They look great from the pictures I have seen. I think I will get these when they hopefully release them to the public in the near future.
Update- just seen they are in fact blades to replace the Fg 100 series released in 2014. Apparently they came out yesterday. They are called ‘ Wilson staff model’. A picture and description of them are up on mygolfspy now. Wow, they look superb. Can’t wait to test and hopefully have these in the bag.
