Hi

I visited the local Direct Golf today to try Wilson Staff Di7 irons. The manager felt I'd need them custom fitted but said the Di7's can't be due to their design - is this true? He seemed enthusiastic for me to try some John Letters clubs which I've read now is characteristic on DG. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, Lewis.

They are right in that it is hard to adjust the lie on them (though I hear it can be done it is just not easy). They can adjust length if necessary on DI7s.

You are right, DG will always push Letters gear as they own the company.

My advice would be to go to a Wilson demo day and get your swing analysed on the launch monitor. The guys doing these days will be able to help in terms of lie and length etc. If you order on the day there is normally a discount with the host store and they will be able to get the clubs direct from the factory for you

Most of the ones I've been too have older versions too. Cally had some X18's and Ping even had a few G5's. Worse case scenario have a chat directly with the Wilson guy there and see what he recommends. It may be that he'll test you on the monitor and say you are 1 degree upright for example and need a stiff shaft (all hypothetical) and could still arrange for a set to be made up at the factory. They must have plenty of heads still in stock.

He's right.
DG offer a quick-fit customising which I'd opt for if I went again. It's £2 per club to get them adjusted i.i.r.c.
Try the John Letters, if you like them, buy them.
Personally, I wouldn't buy John Letters from DG....there is some vested interest I don't know, because that's all they recommend. I suspect they have a deal with JL to buy x amount or something, or a the "main" agent or similar?????

Can you not get the Cobra FP 2008 irons in steel (5-SW) for £199. This is the current pick of the crop from DG and I'm even considering them. These, then add a rescue with 20-24 degrees loft. Perfect....in fact more than perfect, add the Cobra Baffler and have a beaut of a set.

One word of advice. I like MacGregor and have a set of 565s. DG have "bent over backwards" over the last year to help me pick up clubs "outside" of the 4-PW I bought (3i and GW).
I like and support DG.
The 565 and 455 are an improvement iron (for mid-standard).
DG might well have the Mactec NV irons in.....these are ace, but nowhere near as forgiving as the 565 and 455 series. Unless you are really good, stay away....

Why not pick up a set of Mizuno Mx100/200 Y-tune??

Hi,
I have just picked up a set of MX200's. I had them custom fitted and the lie and length adjusted accordingly. Paid £338 which i thought was a bargain !!!
