Will it be good or bad?

It has recently been established that many stars have planets orbiting around them. Given that some of them may be about the same distance out from their star, have a similar temperature range and a similar chemical composition to the Earth, it is quite likely that life has evolved out there somewhere. However the way we have evolved is really down to a series of coincidences, such as a large meteor striking the Earth and wiping out the dinosaurs, so it is unlikely that the aliens will look anything like us. As to intelligent life, that is anyone's guess.

Guess it depends upon the form Adam and Eve took in that other world-with-life :)

Besides - humans are both good and bad - so why would another life form be universally good or bad?

There are 2 scenarios regarding intelligent life.
Either we are totally alone in the universe, or there are other intelligent civilisations out there.
Both options are mind boggling.

We are just a pin prick in the entire universe and haven't even got humans beyond the moon.
If a visitor from out there we just have to hope they're benign as, if not, their technology would be well in advance of anything we have here.

I don't find the idea that there are other intelligent civilisations mind boggling, there are so many other stars and planets that it's more likely than not.

I do find the idea that we're the only intelligence in the Universe to be truly mind boggling.

I find the Universe mind boggling...

Sorry, didn't mean that the chances of there being other intelligent life are mind boggling (ie. small), but rather the thought of sitting here at the same time that there are other civilisations going about their business somewhere else in the universe.

What makes you think that aliens, where ever and who ever would be carbon based lifeforms like us? Alien species from far flung places could a evolved any number of ways.

Logic states that there must be something out there.
We are on the edges of the Galloway Forrest dark skies project so looking at a clear night sky is seriously mind boggling.

It now looks like Mars actually did have some life form so the chances of anything coming from Mars must have been less than a million to one.

If you think about what has to be right for life to exist we are a fluke of the universe. But there is nothing against it that there might be another fluke out there.

I don't expect the to be Romulans or Klingons, ... and not expecting contact in any way.

But my favourite scenario would be were we we're the 12th of the original colonies. I really like the idea of getting to fly a Viper.
