We haven't got many crows around as I think the sqauking from the wild green parrots on the 3rd and 10th holes is putting them off

So is this the answer to keep crows/rooks etc away, to keep parrots near every green... I like it. Perhaps they can be taught to be ball spotters & comentate on aproaching players skill or lack of in a Peter Alliss impersonation.

Our club membership is also full and we charge a joining fee, but with a 4 year waiting list they can get away with it. It will be interesting to see what happens in the next month or so (subs were due 1st Jan and were up by 5% plus £50 bar levy introduced) in the present climate how many members are going to re-join. We don't have to many societies as it's only society day on Thursdays. but I'm wondering if the pay and play figures will go up if the members don't re-join.

It depends where the current members choose to pay & play "twiregolf".

I know where I'll be paying & playing & it wont be anywhere that charges what my current clubs charge for pay & play.

Fortunately I'vegot up until April & May respetively to play where I currently do... If I ever get rid of this flu & it warms up at least a little.

I think my club overcharges on the pay and play but that may be keeping the 'subs' down. If I went p&p though I wouldn't be playing there no matter how local - I've got two good munis within 30 mins to use.

something that's not been mentioned that will be doing well are the 2-for voucher schemes.

tbh I only play at weekends and it makes no sense joining a private club when you slit the cost down, also I don't want golf to take over my life as I want as much time with the wife as possible, though she just picked up a set for herself and is taking lessons in spring I look forward to he bug taking holf of her.

So to me it is best to stay a municipal/nomad golfer which works out cost effective with the added bonus of club life.

Due to having had to accept a £10K pay-cut at work to keep my job and also given that my wife is currently off on maternity leave, I was seriously concerned that I would have to give up my golf membership for 2009. The annual 'ordinary' membership fee for this year is to be £535 and I worked out that apart from the occasional six hole dash on a mid-summers evening, I only play a full round every other weekend or so. Anyway, my club has introduced what they call a 'Limited Play' membership, which entitles me to 20 rounds of golf for only £245!! Way cheaper than even my local Muni!!

That sounds great, can you top up with extra rounds for a discount?

The 20 rounds do not even have to be used in one season. In the unlikely event that I don't use them all this year, I can carry them over and then buy another 20 round ticket when I need it. It also allows me to enter club competitions etc as normal, the only restriction being that I can't tee off before noon at weekends.

That limited rounds idea is quite good especially if you know you will be playing other places too.

More & more places are offering season tickets that don't include full membership or access to comps for those not interested in competition play & club politics.

A mate of mine who has been a member of a local club & a quite expensive one at that worked out that he'd need to play 33 times over the year for the membership to be worthwhile. He didn't get anywhere near that many rounds in over the season at his home club. tbh we spent more time paying & playing with 2-4-1 vouchers at interesting clubs.

I do like the covenience of being a member of my club. Its just down the road (2 mins in car) I can come and go as I please. Monthly Medal, Monthly Stableford, plus other comps. If I only played once a week it would avarage at less than £12 per round. In the summer I'm hoping to be up there once at the weekend plus a couple of evenings. We also have a lot of B team matches which are always good value and a good laugh. All in all I'm quite happy with my club membership.
