Crawforf, Do you count swing speed when swinging to hit the ball or when you are chucking your driver after a badly struck tee shot?

The guy that does the fitting at St Andrews Martin Jones is a top guy, he does know his stuff ,when i went earlier he could have said i neeed any shaft but he said the Blur shaft was working well for me. Worth a try mate and a game at mine as well if you want.

A little bit of research shows that the Nike Vrs comes with a couple of other upgrade options. Matrix HD6, and Aldila Rip 60 are a £40 upgrade for the proper shafts. Not a made for shaft. Now Nike have my full attention and possibly my money.

All Scott Gourlay is going to say is the same as any club fitter on the west coast. I need a low launching, low spinning stiff shaft because of the spin I put on a driver. I already know that I've had a few fittings over the years.

Its a waste of diesel and money to get told that again. I'm not being disrespectful to Mr Gourlay.

If you know this what I dont get is why you keep trying stock shafts and expecting them to be any use, if you have a very high swing speed or spin rate with a driver then stock shafts aren't going to cut it.

Plenty of shaft options out there (75g region, high kick, low spin) but they are going to be upgrade shafts

I booked in for a TM fitting today only to be told on arrival that TM had failed to deliver the fitting cart with shaft and head options. I therefore tried a load of drivers from the stock instead of wasting a day. From that I gathered that these lightweight shafts are pish!

A ok, i misunderstood. Has to be said I met with Rick when he was trying his new TM woods today and I was amazed at how few shaft options seem to be available in their new range of woods, when I bought my 910 I must have tried 15-20 diff shafts before settling on the one that suited me best

My pro had got the new nike stuff in about 15 minutes before I wandered in to hit a few balls and I have to say the Vrs is a gorgeous looking club, might try and see if i can use my employee's status to have a little play

Remember that (retail) RBZ is aimed at mid-high cappers (the bulk of the market). Light head allows (requires) longer and lighter shaft to get swing weight to 'normal' and greater swing speed, resulting in greater distance.

What exactly are you after from a new head/driver?

BTW. I have a (TM friendly) big hitting mate who is decidedly unimpressed with the RBZ Driver.

My take on this is simple. The manufacturer puts its latest offering into retailers up and down the land and simply has to try and appeal to the biggest mass market. Sadly, not all golf consumers tap into the mine of knowlege that is the GM Forum or have the wisdom to seek a C/F fitting and may won't even go to a retailer who will be able to offer different options. The long and short of it is they need to fit something that will give average Joe a feeling he can use the said club and want it.

For me, going forward there are only two things in future I plan to get a C/F for. The driver and the putter. I use both the most on the course and arguably they can both make and break a round. I know my swing speed puts me firmly in the regular steel shaft of most manufacturers range so there isn't the necessity to lose sleep over that but I agree with the OP's original rant that too many stock drivers aren't suited to my swing speed and technique and I need the right engine to drive the club aka the right shaft

Nice review of the Vrs driver here if you have not already seen it. I'd also hang back before shelling out and look at the new Cobra offering. The GM boys were raving about it at the Orlando PGA show !
