Something I have noticed over the last couple of weeks because I have been looking for it having noticed it more and more is the hatred for the fellow human being.

I especially mean sportsman on this thread.

I myself have been doing sport properly since I was 9 and I absolutely love watching sport, and having done many sports not to a massively high standard but a good level especially football and running I really do understand what a high level is and how hard it is to get there.
It really doesn't happen overnight and in some cases it does take a lifetime and many many sacrifices along the way.

I have just lately seen people winning golf tournaments and people posting that they" just don't like the guy" but they don't know why or cant put there finger on it.

Well I can tell you know its either jealousy or you are a hater of some kind because of your own inadequate lives.

We should really be applauding our sportsman and women especially if they are clean athletes as there are 1000s that are not.

This is a rant although I am not perfect it really does baffle me when people slate winners.

Who's on the list of being hated of late?

I can remember Zach Johnson not being a popular winner of the Open in some quarters but haven't seen anything that I can remember apart from that. Mind you, I deliberately avoid the football thread these days.

Not liking someones personality and hate are 2 completely different things though Tony.

It is possible to dislike someone but still admire what they've achieved, eg i don't like Suarez's personality and the biting makes me think he has issues, but what a fantastic footballer, no doubting his ability or hard work on the pitch, granted a lot of the time we only get to see what the media allow.

But still think it's a big leap from dislike to hate.

Plenty of dislike/hate for Bubba on this forum and elsewhere, mainly because of what came out of his mouth when he last played in europe!

Probabaly aimed here, I haven't posted in weeks and then I moaned a bit about Wiggins in a post earlier today, never used the word hate though!

I don't think it's hate so much as there are some, talented and hard-working professional sports people who it's hard to warm to. As a result there are others we'd rather win instead of them. Some athletes do say or do stupid things to start that but others just don't appeal, sometimes for a reason you can't really put into words.

I've always felt that way about Froome - partly I felt he tried to undermine Wiggins, but also just find him hard to warm to. I used to think Wiggins was a bit brash but have grown to like him - by the same token I find Cav irritating!! Human nature I guess.

Hate ? Nah that's far too strong a word. Don't like some sports people but nothing to do with hatred

I'd go with dislike instead of hate, unless you personally know someone then how can you really hate them? As Pauldj42 said as well, not liking someone doesn't mean you don't admire what they've done.

Agree 100% Hate is the wrong word - if anyone feels that they truly 'hate' a sportsperson then they really have to take a good look at themselves.

As it happens as far as I am concerned the same applies to anyone - there is no room for hatred in this world.

Yeh i hate people that say they hate a sportsperson.

Agreed. A forummer posted on the Victor DuBuisson thread "He's an intolerable man". What's that all about.

So everyone has to like everyone who wins? Get real.
I don't particularly like Tiger, Jason Day, or Keegan Bradley, but why does it matter?

People like Connor McGregor as a 'sports personality' getting a lot of (certainly social) media attention cannot help but fuel 'hate' with the way he personally behaves…

A trend that seems quite prevalent is many people love an up and coming sportsman, but when they make it to the pinnacle of their sport people knock them. Why not to pleasure in seeing them perform and knowing how much they put in to get there?

as for hating, even arrogant, successful sports people. I don't sometimes even dislike them. They are what they are, and we're unlikely to come into contact.

Personally, playing match play I want to win. I don't think about beating the opposition, I think about me winning. Glad to chat/banter with my opponent but I don't waste negative energy on working myself into a frenzy worrying about beating people.

Absolutely - if you sit with a 'hate' resentment in your head over someone you don't really know or will likely never meet, then you are just setting yourself up to be an angry, irritable and miserable person.

Dont we all have a golfer we cant be doing with? No obivious or rational reason or explanation. Tiger divides opinion like no other.

However, for me its Jimmy Walker...

Strange because I don't like Johnny walker, more of a Glenfiddich man. 😁
