Why Luke isnt given the credit he deserves.

A very successful player, solid and has shown his excellence on both sides of the pond last year. As Homer says he gets the coverage in Golf press, but not mainsteam - coz he is viewed as a steady Eddie.

Personally he doesnt inspire me a as a golfer...if i was a kid, I'd follow Rory. Just in the same way that I tried to copy Seve but never Nick faldo

I think it's because he doesn't over power courses in the same way tiger or rory does he goes about his business very quietly and proffesionally I personally think he is awesome

I think you've nailed it, he is a great chipper and putter but you are unlikely to see eagles from par 5's in 2 etc

The biggest compliment I could pay Luke Donald is that the only Ryder Cup in recent years where he was not available we lost.

His problem is that he does not meet the profile of "celebrity" where being loud is often given more focus than being talented. You can make the argument that he has not won a major, but I would wonder whether even if he had won as several it would make any difference to some.

He deserves a huge amount of credit for what he has achieved especially as he has managed this without being a big hitter of the ball (by modern standards). I would love to see him clear up at a few of the majors before eventually allowing a certain young ulsterman his inevitable place at the top of the tree.

Once he has a major under his belt he'll be fine, the pressure will be off which I think will help him win more, I fancy him for the Masters or the USPGA i think its not just because McIlroy won a major, but because he won the US Open... hence they came to love him because it was their tournament if you like. I know its odd considering he no.1 but I kind of feel like Donald isn't the type of player to win the US open, he always starts steadily then really fires up the leaderboard on saturday and sunday, but I feel like the US open is so tough you have to be firing all week... ive gone a bit off topic here

As previously mentioned, I think its because he just quietly goes about his business, hes a proper gent, which is not something the Americans warm to (not saying Rory isn't one)

My teaching pro says Donalds swing is pretty much what he would want all his pupils aspiring to, as he's fully in control at all times, Rory's swing is more impressive but has a higher chance of going wrong

As you can probably tell I'm a fan of Luke... :)

Homers right.
He gets recognition from the people that really matter, the other players.
Media, american get in the hole types are looking for swashbuckling, hit it mile golfers, that
sell.
I dont think theirs one player that would choose to play Luke in matchplay for a million pounds.

Luke ain't gonna blow a 4 shot lead in the Masters, follow it up with an 8 shot win in the US open or go 63/80 in The Open at St Andrews. Rory doesn't have much charisma imo but he does have an exciting game.
Luke is in the Steve Stricker mould, bloody good but a bit machine like and predictable, that's just the way it is, I'm sure Luke is pretty happy with his lot in life regardless. Luke has a better chance of a major than Lee imo.

This hits the nail on the head for me. Luke reminds me a lot of Scott Parker. Both quietly efficient at what they do and not being overly celebrated until one stunning season. Since watching him at the BMW last year I've hugely admired Luke and agree with other comments that he is a player we can aspire to. I would say though that he isn't the shortest or most accurate off the tee, it's his approach and short game that puts him on top of the world.

When I grow up I want to have a short game like Luke ;)

Agree with most of whats been said... The lack of a Major is minor issue

Its just that he is a little ......BOOOOOORRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGG and there are plently like him

I'd rather watch a little flair on the TV

Give me Rory, Tiger, Bubba and Phil in a 4ball any day
over
Luke, westy, stricker, Mahan etc

Spot on, greatly admire Donald for his high level consistency and I think it's all something we can aim for. But I watch golf to be entertained.
