Our showroom has been sold and is being knocked down in 3 months time.
I've been told I have to transfer to our Eastbourne Fiat branch.
Fiat is not exactly a franchise that I have ever wanted to sell, so I'm not overjoyed if I'm honest.
On top of that, the hours are slightly longer at this showroom 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday.
Add to that that they are expecting me to work every other Sunday.
Also add to that that during rush hour it's going to take me the best part of an hour to get there and back again.
At the moment my showroom is 5 minutes away and is open 8.30 to 6, 8.30 to 5 on a Saturday.
And I work one in three Sundays.
So on top of selling for a franchise I don't want to sell, if I go I've got to add at least another 15 hours or more (average) to my working week.
My wife works full time, so we'd actually get one day a fortnight to spend time together.
Just when I thought things were going "reasonably" well.
Oh and they are not paying me any extra for it.

Could be good grounds for seeking redundancy rather than moving locations. Mind you government standard redundancy payments are pretty poor.

That doesn't seem very fair... tough one Smiffy.

As a side note, what is this work thing you talk about - month into retirement and I recommend it.

Smiffy, I am pretty sure that I saw an advert for another dealership in Eastbourne. Can't remember which one at the moment, I'll see if I can find it.

Sounds like you've got a bum deal there. You've got the experience and the connections and your mrs works so why not set up your own car sales business?
Thinking Terry Tibbs now.

What become the drummer in Adam and the Ants?

Smiffy, arent there other franchises in the area?

I have sometimes looked to work in car sales, but even for possibly double the wages, I couldnt work them hours. I'd rather have a better work life balance.

Even if the pay was slightly less at a new place, 15 hours a week less, would be worth its weight in gold.

Smiffy didn't you move jobs recently, and where you not temped to move by better conditions?

sound to me, if 'the case you may have a case

I moved jobs last February Patrick due to my old manager leaving Nissan, with the new guy coming in to replace him being an absolute arse.
My old manager moved to the Peugeot dealership I am at at the moment, he was not aware at the time that this place was being sold! Going to be knocked down and become a massive great Aldi supermarket!
He has now gone to the Fiat dealership I have been informed I've got to go to so I would have no problem working for him there, but I just don't fancy going.
Problem is, I'm 62 on Saturday. Whilst it would be lovely to retire, finances won't allow me.
And trying to find a new job at my age isn't easy.

i suppose then you have these options.

Suck it up and look for a new job.

or get legal advice as the T&C are not what they where when you took the job. I don't think by law they can change your contract, but i'm no expert.
