Why do you love golf?

Because its a constant battle of continuous improvement!! Everyone can play against anyone with handicaps!

When I'm on the golf course - nothing else in the world matters! I switch off from reality and play golf!

Love all aspects of competition in all it's formats, the feeling of belonging to a club where everyone knows you and shares your passion.

On top of that, there's the peaceful solitude it can also bring. Evening sun, light breeze, course empty. It's just you, the sounds of nature instead of traffic, and a 170 yard carry over water to a narrow green.

You absolutely flush it straight at the pin, it dances and holds. Bliss.

The fact that it's probably the most frustrating game imaginable, in the fact that you can play badly but 1 shot brings you back. Last weekend, played badly all round, got to 18 and hit a nice hybrid into position A, then hit a terrible shot into the greenside bunker. However, hit a lovely 10 yard bunker shot, which landed where I wanted 7 yards on, one bounce and rolled into the cup for an unlikely birdie - almost went out again for another 18 after that!

Its basically the crystal maze in a giant field.

Skill game - chipping and putting
Mental game - keep that score going, block out past indiscretions.
Physical game - bang that driver as far as possible
Mystery game - where did that shot come from ?

Great way to challenge yourself, meet like minded people and compete.

I think the thing I love most though is that anyone can hit a shot, chip, full or putt just as well as the best in the game, albeit a bit less frequently!

I love the fact that you can have the worst round possible but you still come back because of that one driver, or that one approach shot you stuck to a foot for birdie. And you think in that moment you can really play the game..... that moment always makes you forget that for the other 99 shots of your round you were terrible.

I love to hate the game, as one day I can hit the ball and the next I cant, what a great roller coaster ride it is.

I can set foot on a golf course, and within 10 minutes wish i was back at home. One week later, the course is closed and i am gutted.

You can play it on your own with no forward planning required.
Peace and quiet, big trees, great views and the ball sometimes goes where you aimed it.

Tough question, one I often ask myself half-way through a shocking round. :D

It's a mix of lots of things I suppose. I like sports generally, especially something I can improve at as I go. Being 30 years old I've sort of reached my peak with football probably, but plenty of room for improvement with the golf. It's also nice to get out of the house for a few hours, spending time with mates, and have a couple of pints at the end of it.

And there's just a really nice feeling inside when you strike a shot cleanly - hard to describe it, but it's just satisfying. When the swing is spot on, you catch it nicely and it feels effortless. Obviously this only happens once in about 8 shots for me, but that's what you keep chasing isn't it? That perfect, sweet shot feeling.
