Why do some courses insist on staying open?

My old club used to always be open. No winter greens either. It was privately-owned, so clearly run for profit. I imagine their major source of income would be casual hackers, so better to stay open and get a few green fees from kids wanting to use the new clubs they got for Christmas. The members might have a bit of a moan, but they'll get over it.

Still, if it's bad weather and the course is in poor condition, they'd only get a couple of people wanting to play it. £40 in green fees offset against wages for the pro-shop and bar. They'd be much better off closing.
