to myself?

supposed to have a medal next week but with the back 9 still closed it doesn't look likely to happen. Irritating!

don't fancy just playing a probably muddy front nine so book a tee on a new course for this afternoon. it's not been mapped to gps and when I get there no shotsavers either. so I'm flying blind. Irritating!

plan to play solo but bump into a mate so play him. not a bad start then we meet a couple of his mates on the 6th, so now we're a four ball. one duff hole on the front leaves me with 18 points.

funny layout on this course, 1 to 12 are continuous with the last six tucked a few hundred yards away. they all plan to quit on 12, which we all proceed to make a mess off.

now I'm solo and promptly run into a four-ball on 13. absolutely no give in them so now I'm looking at it clouding over and wondering if I'll even finish. follow them all the way round the back, me getting closer, them getting slower (they're spreading their drives all across the course but just have to stop to watch each other).

up to now, and especially since I've been solo I haven't been playing badly (for me), got to 18 with 18 points already; driving ok, woods still dodgy but irons getting better, short game and putting holding up.
But now I'm waiting on the 18th, and still waiting, and now I let myself get annoyed - and promptly make a complete and total dogs breakfast of the last.

end up 36 points, +3 on a new course - but it should have been better!

I was mad at myself for letting the anti-social 4-ball get to me. That plus the fact that I can't prove the improvement in a medal - I want a cut.

Up to wrecking the 18th I'd got 13 points in 5 straight holes and until thent was pretty chuffed.

Hey, the season hasn't started yet. Anything in the way of a cut now is a bonus, but wait til the spring comps start, plenty of time to get honed ready for a cut. You can't rush these things. Now is the time to chill. Especially if the course is flooded.
If you are playing well, just take the view that this is the new you, not a phase, but the way forward, you never know, but with some positive thought you might be even better, ready for a proper cut by the time the full course is open.
Don't view it as a wasted opportunity, view it as more practice before you get to play your best.

Just get that swing into shape and wait for spring to arrive. Another month and the season will be upon us. That's when you want to play consistent golf and get your handicap down.

At the moment just look on it as more experience and more on course practice. :)
