Why did you leave the course?

Homer's thread reminded me of a time when I was playing a medal with 2 other guys in Germany.
Beautiful Saturday morning, my mate Jerry off 3 was out in level when the manager came out in his buggy with news for Jerry. As he was a front line navigator stationed in Germany at the time, his expertise was need in The Gulf.
Off he went, flew out that night and was on TV in a news interview the next evening.
Fortunately, he came back and is now hacking it round off 6 in the seniors league in Chippenham somewhere

Why were you called off the course? (not just because you were playing rubbish)

Got to the course once and was 1 under after 12 but i couldnt be bothered playing so walked in

Had a tee booked with some mates but woke up feeling ill, having previously won a stableford when feeling "iffy" I decided to stick it out and play. I felt a little but not much better once I was at the course and had eaten so off I went.

I was doing fairly well for the first few holes until I started feeling quite sick. Apparently I went all white and then almost fainted on the 11th. I hit a tee shot then after seeing it sale off into the long grass I called it a day with a total of about 11 points.

I dropped into the pro shot to tell them I had to retire through illness and the guy said they will reflect that on the printout instead of just an NR.

Annoying thing was they put the "retired through injury" against someone else but not me!

My second grandson was on the way (Jan this year), and I had to go and be with grandson number 1.

Went for a few holes when on search & rescue Nimrods. The jet would be packed full of food and supplies and would be gone for about 8 hours generally.

3rd hole @ Trevose and the bleeper goes, hydraulic fault, approx 30tonnes of fuel being dumped in the bristol channel, due to land in an hour!!!

I once had to walk off after losing a contact lense.
I hit a bunker shot, the wind blew sand into my eye and I couldn't see a thing.
So I took the lense out to rinse it in some water from my bag. The wind then blew the lense off my finger as I was about to put it back in.
Couldn't see a thing so I walked in.

Don't have that problem anymore as I've had laser surgery.

I've only had to leave once, and that was during a friendly match.

It was also at the time when I was suffering from an intermittent, mysterious and undiagnosed stomach problem, and had an attack on the 13 tee.

Violent stomach cramps and a huge risk of what I can only call "fallout" saw me briskly walk to the clubhouse.

Then drive home and go straight to bed.

After 16 months, the "medical experts" worked out it was my appendix and removed it. Problem solved! But 14 months later than it should have been!!!

Lke other I'm luck, I've never been called of the course, nor have had good reason to decide to do so either.

Never been called of a course other than for lightning. I've had a few rounds with "fallout" threatening when I use to drink loads but somehow swung much smoother with clenched cheeks and always managed to survive intact

Way back in the distant sands of time, when the small ball was still king, we had a plane crash to contend with.

For those who know Silverknowes Golf Course in Edinburgh, it happened over the lower reaches of the course. In those days the 4th, 5th & 6th took you down the side of the road to the esplanade by the shore. An RAF Chipmunk trainer plane came over the course and although losing height and obviously in some serious difficulty, managed to avoid pancaking on the course and landed in the field across the road from the 6th (now 3rd) tee. The instructor must have ben a golfer Bet the trainee needed a clean set of underwear though

Needless to say, golf came to a standstill. Later that evening we went down to see the plane in the field. Since it was an RAF plane, there was an armed guard there until recovery took place the following day.

I remember that well, especially the recovery of the Chipmunk by a Wessex helicopter.

16th green and the sirens went off so had to get in fast. Downpour was very very impressive I have to say.

Got a free pass for a game the next day - result

About 15 years ago I was playing the 4th at Strathclyde Park when I sliced my drive into the trees OOB right. I was playing with a guy who was tighter than two coats of paint and when I said I wasn't going to fetch my new Tour Edition he said he would. I changed my mind and I hopped the fence and ran down the hill to where the ball was lying. I hurdled an old tree trunk and ended up flat on my back. I got up with blood pouring from my right ear and was told the top was hanging off. So I walked back to my car and drove to the hospital and had 15 stitches put in.

A guy I know got a half in a club team match after been wacked on the head by a ball, it didn’t bounce either... Blood all over, least we got the half away from home.
