Why Did People Ditch Their JPX 800 Irons

I promised myself a treat when I got my handicap down to 18 and went out to hit some irons today. Was getting on well with the JPX irons (regular not pro did not get the chance to try the HD) and they are certainly a bit easier on the eye than my current Cobras.

What concerns me is that a few people on here (Drawboy being one)were full of praise for them then a relatively short period later had taken them out the bag. Obviously the irons are working well to start with but something is happening to change people's opinions. I think I can recall 3 or 4 people on here who have changed from JPX to something else after a shortish perid of time.

I want my next set of irons (if I change) to last me a good few years so wondered what it was about the JPX irons that people are falling out of love with so quickly. I am not normally worried about what others think about clubs but this is the first set of irons that I have seen a number of people ditch in a short period of time.

There seems to be a general falling out of love with Mizuno recently - I'm as guilty as the next Man.
CVG has the JPX800 and seems to be getting on quite well with them.

I can only speak for myself, but I loved them when i got them and love them even more now, about 2 months later.
I've been keeping up the lessons, which obviously helps, but my scores have been getting better since I got them.

Definitely not falling out of love with them here. If anything, I'm stopping myself swapping out my perfectly good TM's to have a bag full of JPX 800's :D

I dont think thats its a particular problem with Mizuno as a whole....

I just think that with the modern life that most of us live now and the fact that i as much as the next player gets really frustrated at missing a target when you know that you have put a half decent swing on a club....

I dont believe in all this stuff that G.I clubs make you have a sloppy swing...
And that you need to concentrate more with a smaller club...

If your not up for your round for whatever reason then i dont really think it matters what your swinging...The nett outcome will be similar.

I also think that over the next few years you will see a huge increase in the no. of people playing clubs similar to Ping's G series and ego's will be cast aside as the excitement of seeing handicaps tumble may be the thing everyone is talking about.

Didn't try the regular 800 but loved the 800 pro and was close to buying them and was having a real conflict between them and the I15. In the end I got neither but having held off I'm glad I did. I still hit my current clubs pretty well (on a good day) and having gone back and looked at the JPX 800 and the Pro, couldn't believe the top line on them. OK it is abot how they play but they didn't look as good as I remembered. Think I may have had an escape from buyers remorse

I used to play mp30's and they had a very thin topline which looked great but didn't help my game.

When i changed to the jpx pro i noticed how thicker they looked but now i'm used to them. They are still a lot thinner than the Pings/ Callaways.

i consider the new mizuno jpx irons, but i think they are SOOO ugly its unreal.

the mp59 are nice but expensive and the mx200 i have look tidier than those jpx tacky jobbies.

so im going to wait till the 59 price drops and then take it from there.

look at the 58's?

Not dropping mine, but I have considered it.. Then I realise that if I'm taking a divot 2 inches before hitting the ball then it's probably not the clubs fault is it.. Mine will only go when I get to cat 1. So maybe never then.

I fell out with mine as try as I may I just could not get a consistant strike.I'm not telling anyone to buy or to ditch them but please make sure you give them a lot longer than an hour at a fitting before you take the plunge. Try to get a full round with a trial set. They may be Mizuno's most forgiving irons at the moment but they are at the bottom of a range that are firmly players irons. I'm off 12 so not a beginner but I could not get them to go as well as I was hoping. At first they were ok, I expected to get better with them as I went on but they didn't and at the end they had just sapped all of my enthusiasm for them.

I can't fault the MP53s. I must admit after the MP30s I had before I didn't get on with the JPXs partly because I thought they were Fugly.

I would guess this is because they are cast and use Hot Metal technology whatever that may be. When I was Mizuno fit the JPX were 20/25 yards longer on good hits than the 53's I ended up with. In short they are super springy and that can make distance control tricky. I remember there was someone in ask the expert section who was having real trouble around the greens with them as even with a chip like swing the ball was jumping off the face.

To some extent this is the case with any SGI club.
