WHS 9 hole calculations

Thanks for all of your responses, so sounds like the overarching hypothesis is correct that if I play 9-holes at my course and get 14 shots vs playing 18 and getting 31, in terms of handicap cuts it's more advantageous to play 18 and cut out the 9's
Have you taken some hypothetical rounds and calculated your score differentials for 9 holes and 18 holes?
I must admit I haven't tried doing comparisons but par does not come into the differential calculation.

I'm not sure what you are saying. The number of strokes you get for your game has nothing to do with any handicap cuts (or increases) you get as a result of it. Only your gross score is relevant.

If you submit a 9 hole score it will be scaled up to an 18 hole one.

On Monday, if I play the front 9 and score +14, I have played 'to' my handicap
On Tuesday, if I play the back 9 and score +14, I have played 'to' my handicap
On Wednesday, if I play 18 and score +28, I have played 3 shots under my handicap

Same gross on Wednesday as Monday & Tuesday, but according to the EG app different outcomes?

I am sorry to disappoint you, but if you shoot +28 over the 18 holes you may have scored three under par net however that is not the same as saying you are three under your handicap. The CR is 68.5 so you would need to shoot +27 or net 68 to be under your handicap.

You have played three different golf courses.

I went back and checked our WHS Course certificates (we have 6) and all give an 18 hole CR and 2 x 9 hole CR which add up to the 18 hole CR. The par is standard for both 9s (36) and 72 for the 18. I must admit to being surprised that the sum of the 2 9s is so different to the 18 on the OP. As a firm believe in the C-Up theory vs conspiracy, I wonder if the club loaded the rating information correctly?

Having thought about it a bit more since my last posting, I can now see why I was as mystified as you. The nub of the calculations is the difference between the 9-hole CRs and par is -1.8 and - 1.7 for the two 9s.

I'm in a similar boat..
Play 18 and get 8 shots
Play front 9 for a card and I get 4
Play back 9 for a card and get 3.

I understand the maths and the CRs and Slopes etc but its still hard to explain to a non golfer.......
