As per the thread title.

With both players wilting on the final day (McIlroy in 2011), I have the following question for you good people.

Who, in your opinion, melted more on the final day of the Masters?

What swung it for you making you choose either Speith or Mcilroy?

Spieth for me, is was sudden, Rory's was a long slow painful to watch round.

Speith, as Rory didn't have a meltdown.

Speith because McIlroy melted over 2 days rather than just final day.

To go from 5 shots ahead to 1 behind in half an hour was pretty impressive!

McIlroy. I don't remember all of McIlroys meltdown but I think it continued to the end. Happy to be corrected but it felt bigger to me.

Speith managed a partial recovery at one point before he just pushed too far. Speith led for 3 and a half days and was the existing champion. He was under mighty pressure and he indicated after day three that his game was not 100%. It is testament to his skill that he led for as long as he did. Behaved impeccably as well.

Two top players who deal with immense pressure time and time again. No shame in what happened.

For me it was McIlroy's it was more like Greg Normans it was prolonged and intense it was like he forgot how to play golf, Spieth got punished (finally) for 2 bad shots.

I picked McIlroy because at least Speith fought back with a couple of birdies. Rory seemed to physically slump with his head leaning on his driver and giving the impression of being completely lost (at least to me, anyway).

This.
Speith was still in with a shout with 3 to play and I half expected him to make something happen. Rory crumbled big time and wasn't even close come the end, his whole body language through those back 9 holes was horrific.

I went for Rory.

Although Speith bogeyed 10 and 11 before the quad on 12, like it has been mentioned he came back with a few birdies, missed a short birdie putt on 16 also. Had that gone in, his head might've been in a better place and who are we to say he wouldn't have birdied 18 to take it to a play off! I feel Mcilroy's meltdown was much more emphatic, and also i feel Speith is a stronger character mentally than Rory, so will affect Speith a lot less going forward than it did Rory.

Spieth - it was McIroy's first go at leading a major, he didnt know how to handle it, he learned from it. Spieth's game is all about getting ahead and staying there, this was massive for him. What a blow to his confidence, but also what a boost for everyone else. He isn't a robot afterall. And that is why is meltdown is far more significant.

I agree Rory's was a bigger meltdown. 4 shot lead going into the final round and shooting +8 to finish 10 behind the winner. But you can't get any better of a bounce back than going on to win the next major by 8 shots.

Oops I didn't read the title correctly, I thought it was just this week.

Can I change my vote to McIlroy please Sir?

I really would not classify Spieth's performance on Sunday as a meltdown. He basically had one very bad hole and a few bogeys in the same round. But he also continued to make birdies right to the end. It was more a case of losing composure for a moment after a really unlucky shot. He played a 73 on Sunday ... that's not a meltdown, escpecially not at Augusta. A similar thing happened to Day with his triple bogey on 16 on Thursday, for example. Pretty much every player went through quite a few ups and downs at the Masters. More downs than ups for most of them. It just hit Spieth harder because it happend to him so late in the tournament and people had already begun to see him as a certain winner.

Of the two in the OP, Rory's was worse. He started badly but had time to turn it round. Instead he lost the plot and looked like a lost little boy.

Jordan had a bad run but composed himself and almost got back into contention.

Rory obviously did brilliantly to bounce back and win the us open but he couldn't do it mid round when it was needed.

McIlroy for me. He totally lost it that day. Speith had 3 bad holes but he stayed in contention and tried to fight back. McIlroy just looked like he wanted to walk off the course and seemed to have no idea how to get it back together again.

Spieth's was best for me as it meant my bet came in :)

I felt for Rory more as it was going to be his first and only Masters win. At least Spieth knows he can win the event, Rory looked uncomfortable all week.
