who would be your legend?

Golf wise has to be Seve. Went to the Irish Open regularly in the late 70s/early 80s when Seve would conjure magic on the links at Portmarnock and Royal Dublin.

Arnold Palmer for me.
He's always come across as a gentleman, and gentlemen play golf.
If I had to pick one player to hold up as an example of everything this sport embodies, it would be him.

My dad took me to watch a practice day for the Open at Carnoustie in 1975 I think. He gave me an autograph book and told me to go and ask the man in the yellow jumper if he would sign the book. As there were no ropes on practice days, I rather nervously approached the big man. He stopped walking, signed my book and thanked me for asking. He said he hopes I enjoy watching the golf. I still have the book, so if you are reading this, thank you Mr Nicklaus. :)

Homer asks a good question. How do you define "legend"?

For me "legend" suggests that there is something hard to believe about what they actually did. The "Is that true? Really he did that? effect. The brilliant thing is golf has so many. Here's my list

Young Tom Morris
Walter Hagen
Bobby Jones
Ben Hogan
Arnold Palmer
Jack Nicklaus
Tom Watson
Seve
Tiger

Is it possible to single out one name from that list. No.

Worst thing is thinking of the names I've left off!

for me it would be Brian Barnes. Any one who can beat Jack twice in one day, and pull off this short/sock combo is OK with me

Payne Stewart.

Lance Armstrong away from golf. Football wise, probably Willie Miller, best defender Scotland has ever produced.

Jack get my vote for all time legend, faldo was my idol growing up (oh how i wanted a pringle man jumper!),

i do think tiger was well on his way to legendary status and seems to be getting back on track after his blip but only time will tell, (and whos knows he could be right back on track within a in a couple of weeks even!)
