Can you move the posts if they restrict your swing or do you get a free drop or a drop for a penalty stroke?and what is the outcome in a club comp if you remove the post and play on and win the comp?

You are not allowed to move OOB markers at all, anyone moveing them would be penalised for improving there lie and should receive a two shot penalty, if this was not added to the score before the score was signed for would be dq'd.

You could take a penalty drop under the unplayable rule if needed

Yup, apparently you go straight to hell once you dance off this merry planet too for that infringement of the rules. :D

If the OOB stakes gets in the way of your swing, you're not allowed to move them.
If someone did and won the comp, he should be disqualified for signing for an incorrect score.

What about 150 yard marker posts? I often see people moving them if they interfere with their swing.

Don't they count as moveable obstructions?

The OOB stakes are the only ones you CANT move.
The rest are ok ie yellow, red, black and white etc

In my opinion that's where the rules of golf become stupid!

I know what you mean but sometimes OOB is marked by a wall and you certainly cant move that

I agree total baloney

So if your ball is in bounds but the post is in your way, can you take relief as from an immovable obstruction? Or is it treated as a tree would be, i.e. tough tatties?

Sorry but i dont mean to hijack a thread by any means but as its an out of bounds question i had a bit of a weird one a few weeks ago in a bounce round....I tee'd iff our 18th, OOB all down the right but the margin where the stakes were wasnt exactly straight....Some of the posts were inside others and vice versa....My ball landed in line with the one in front of me but when i turned round to check the other i was just slightly inside it.....What is the outcome in this scenario?
If i was to take a line from the one in front of my ball then the post behind me was about 6 inches outside(closer to the fairway) which in theory meant my ball was in OOB :D

Check the local rules at our place yardage markers are immovable obstructions and NOT to be removed. (so the sign says!)

Kid2 you have draw an imaginary line between the stakes and judge whether or not youre in or out. Get your mate to hold a club upright over the ball and have a good squint down the line

I thought white posts were defined as immovable obstructions, so shouldn't you get relief? :D

Important to remember that one of your eyes is dominant. To find out which one hold a finger out in front of you and cover each eye in turn. When you cover your dominant eye, your finger will appear to move slightly in the direction of your non-dominant eye. When looking with your dominant eye, your finger will remain in the same position. Applying this to the course, if the ball looks OOB when using your dominant eye, then cover it and look with your other eye. The ball will miraculously move. You may need to look at the ball from each of the markers to get the correct answer...just need to take a break now and iron my anorak.

drink about 8 or 9 pints of Stella, possibly more, roll in at about 10.00pm and watch match of the day.
You will soon find out which is your dominant eye.
