Which rule do you see being misinterpreted/ bent/broken most often?

For me, I'd say water hazards and where to drop from staked trees are the most common where I play.

Agree, watching people establish their nearest point of relief is comical most of the time.

Options of how to proceed when someone needs to take relief is a popular one I see. The generally accepted solution is to stand with your hands on your hips and ask "what do i do now then?" :D

the no phones on the bloody golf course rule.

nothing worse than lining up for a storming drive on a nice hole on to get the theme tune to some stupid tv program or song on your dam backswing!

That has to be my biggest golf course hate! arggghhhhhhh

other than that i agree peoples peoples two club lengths can some times be questionable, i know our clubs have graphite shafts like fishing rods but their length is definately not the same!

not knowing where the nearest point of relief is (or can be)
not knowing whether to take one or two club lengths
not taking full relief

and the all time favourite,
not having a clue what to do when in a lateral hazard

oh and not to be forgotten,
the 'nearest point of relief' magically being 30 yards away at the edge of the wood with a clear line of sight

Without a doubt it's the free relief rule ie from staked trees , GUR , immovable obstructions etc etc

Nearly every round I play these days I have to correct/show someone how to take a free drop. Even single figure golfers stand there and measure a club length from the ball and think thats it

It really is disheartening to see the most basic rule totally messed up and it is probably used more than any other.

How many medal rounds are played each week throughout the country where this basic rule is broken ?? Hundreds , thousands ??

Most of you lot, the way you go on you'd think you'make a living from playing the game

Because that's what it is a GAME to be enjoyed by all

I would suggest the marking of the ball and drop position, when taking relief.

How often do you see someone land in GUR or on an adjacent green, get a free drop and just lift their ball and drop it, without marking where it was lifted from and the relief spot no nearer the hole, that they must drop behind.

Of course it is , we know that , but every game has to have rules and it's no fun if 99% of you follow the rules and the others dont. All we ask is that when we play competitions people know how to obey the 'basic' rules at least. Not too much to ask really...

Another vote for "where to drop" from me. Plus, even if they determine the spot, not realising that they have a clublength from there.

Also, "going back on line" from hazard margins and unplayable lies always seems to interpreted as "going back in the rough direction of the tee ensuring that the big tree isn't in the way for the next shot"

Another I have heard several times.......

Tam is on the green 30 feet away in 2.
Jimmy is just off the green 20 feet away, also in 2.
Without asking, Jimmys "putts up" onto the green.
Jimmy thinks because he is off the green, it's him to putt first....and this was in a "B Team" match.

Do you actually know anybody with the bloody stupid name "Tam?"
