Which is more important, pace of play or the weather?

Which of these would you prefer?

For me it would depend on what I was playing in, singles competition and I want to keep the tempo going so a quicker round in preferable, In say a team competition time wouldn't be so much of a problem, a nice round with friends on a nice day.

There’s many a time I’ve got up early to play in a comp and the weather wants me to cancel, but I always get to the club and seem to have fallen lucky.

Golf and rain is no fun to me.

Neither is waiting for a bunch to get around the course, but at least I’d be playing.

Either way, unless it’s a comp or a match, I’m walking in after 9.

I was thinking this morning, it's a while since my waterproofs last left the wardrobe!😁😁

Similarly, I played The Vale of Glamorgan last week. On my previous visit over 10 years ago, we were stuck behind a Society. After 5 hours we still had 3 or 4 holes to go. We walked in from there. 🤣 I can't actually remember the hole, my mind blocked the experience out. I could only remember the first two holes.

When my parents lived in Marbella we used to visit and play the courses anround every year. Towards the end of the time they were there we walked in a few times after 9 holes (and 3+ hours) and demanded half the green fee back or a pass to play the back 9 at another time.
Life is too short.

Don’t think I’ve ever had the displeasure of a 5 1/2 round and I don’t want it either.

Don’t really mind the cold or the wet as long as I’m prepared for it. I also enjoying playing well no matter the conditions. Now if there is a 30mph wind as well then that’s different but just a standard cold day with rain and gentle breeze isn’t too bad.

It would depend on who I was playing with.

If it was cold and rainy and I didn't get on with some of the players then I would be walking off unless I was playing well enough to win the thing if it was important enough.

If I was with a bunch of mates, and we were being held up all the way, then we would probably all grumble a lot but get to the end, having a bit of banter along the way to keep it fun.

My play almost always suffers in either of those situations anyway. Wearing specs doesn't help me in the rain, and being a quick player means that I don't like being behind (or with) slow players.

Played last Thursday in a four, no one in front of us and we round 3 1/2 hours, a three ball on the other side with no one in front of the 4 1/2 hours and they think they were not slow.

Tough question really. I don't mind a long-ish round if the company is good, but 5 and a half hours is pushing it. I don't mind a bit of rain as long as it's not gale-force gusts as well - and I'd certainly rather play well as that is a huge factor in my enjoyment, so the fact you included that makes me lean towards that option.

I played in the cold yesterday and it rained pretty much all the way around, altho thankfully just very light rain.

Shot my best score for many a year and had a very enjoyable morning.

And just for the record, it didn't take anywhere near 5 and a half hours...

I live in N Yorkshire, if I didn't play if it rained (or threatened to) I'd never play. If a round of golf was regularly 4 1/2 hours or longer I'd stop playing golf. Last week we were a 4 ball behind a 2 and we waited on most holes......just a recipe for a bad shot when you are standing around waiting.

Difficult question to answer, when the obvious answer is neither.

There are other variables which come into play, e.g. the course and the company.

I've only had one 5+ hour round of golf I can think of in the last couple of years. And it was a lovely course, on a warm June day, with a good friend. I was playing well, but the delays did impact me. Still I really enjoyed myself so I'll pick this option. Couldn't do it every week though.

I wouldn’t mind 5 and a half hours playing Turnberry Ailsa in beautiful weather — It’s a glorious place to be, and I can’t imagine there are many better places in good weather…so I’d be very happy to spend a few hours looking at the views especially from the 9th to the 11th holes

Rather be doing that that than rushing round and playing it in driving wind and rain, and rushing back to my accommodation / clubhouse to spend that time ‘saved’ drinking Tennants lager and watching Strictly 🤪🤣🤪🤣
