Which Hybrid?

I want to replace the standard 21 loft Hybrid I got with my golf set but I’m not too sure which one to get, I’ve spoken to a few people I play with and each one has recommended a different one, whilst claiming it to be the only one worth having. I thought I’d use the power of the web to try and get some kind of consensus. The three I’ve been recommended are

Bobby Jones Players Series
Ping G10
Callaway FT

Any comments, good experiences/horror stories greatly appreciated.

I have owned a few hybrids in my time and at the moment I have a Wilson df6 19 degree jobby with a proforce V2 shaft. For me this is the best hybrid I have owned. Sits beautifully and looks the dogs bollocks!

Most hybrids put the ball far too high and I especially found the Cobra Baffler DWS which so many on here rave about the worst. It ballooned the ball. Each person looks for something different and I guess its all down to what you want the hybrid for. I wanted something between my 3 wood and my 3 iron that doesnt launch the ball into orbit and for me the df6 is superb.

It is hard to recommend a specific club because like the craw says it depends what you like in the way of ball flight, as the much too high flight is partly why I didn't like the Baffler also. But for others this is exactly what they are looking for so basically you should try as many as possible and see what you hit best from a VARIETY of lies if this is possible. The hybrid that I have never herd anyone say a bad word about though is the now superseded cleveland halo. It was by far the best selling hybrid at the time- but as I say what works for one doesn't for another. Carrying out testing yourself is your best bet. Good luck with it.

Probably depends on the shaft - I have the 23 deg 4r baffler DWS pro with a stiff speeder shaft -it's not ballooning, it does go high, as a hybrid should, but it's also penetrating, I am very impressed with this club. Hitting into the wind especially it is effortless to get the ball really moving.

All i can suggest is go out and try them. You may find one youlike outwith those three.

Birdieman is right, its all in the shaft. Think thats why the craw is hapy with the wilson DH6 (me too!!) as the V2 is a low launch shaft which keeps the ball a bit lower. If you are tempted with a hybrid with the V2 shaft, its a bit on the stiff side for some so you may want to try it in regular. Suits my 500 mph lash at the ball fine ;)

i have a ping g10 with a prolauch red shaft in which lauches the ball quite high but with less spin to stop it balloning which is a problem with me it works well having said that i used the nike sq squared hybrid which was equally as good, best advice is if you like the look down and the ball flight it doesnt matter what it says on the bottom

Tried a few last week as am thinking of putting a 20 degree in my bag. At the high end of the price range I liked the Callaway and at the low end I liked the Benross VeloCT. Probably the best for me, however, was the Adams A3 Boxer. Tried a few Adams hybrids and fairways and liked them all.

Dh6 with Pro force V2 stiff for me as well, although they are a little difficult to get hold of now. Can't really fault it as it does everything i want it to. Draw, fade, high or low as long as you are a confident striker of the ball you really can make it sing.
If you can't find one try the Fybrid as they perform nearly as well.
Get out and try a few that take your eye and i am sure you will find something that suits your swing.

Nice to see I have more Wilson Staff fans on here. You can get the Dh6 hybrid from affordable golf. I have one and also love it. I have the 19 degree and it goes miles, I get about 200 yards easy from it.

Did you get your gear from affordable golf big-russ

htl, mine came from onlinegolf about November last year(40th birthday present off mum).
I only paid £59.99 for it and considering what it does for your game it has to be the best bargain that has ever been in my bag.
I got ot instead of a 5 wood as i thought it would offer me greater versatility and like i said earlier you can easily play all the shots with it.
Don't think i would buy another one with more loft only for the fact that i love hitting my long irons.

I use the Cobra DWS and have to say I don't find any problems with it going too high. It is ideal off the tee for me on any hole between 175 and 190 yards and even of the peg flies a nice reasonable height.

To add a bit of a curve ball to the list of suggestions, had a look at the Cleveland XLS over the weekend out of curiosity. It won't fit everyones eye as like the woods it has a shallowed out section but boy when it goes it really goes. Not too expensive eiter at £119 at AG (I'm sure they will haggle a few quid off)

I have looked at the Ping G10 and Callaway FT (with the 3 wood also). Both look great, but the Ping G10 seems to sit better for me at address.

As mentioned above - get out there and hit them as much as you can before buying one.

I note that most of the posters on this have graphite shafts.

I have an original TM rescue, 22°, which I had reshafted with a dynamic gold S300 to match my irons. The thinking being that if it is to replace an iron, it should have the same shaft as my irons. I certainly don't want it to fly longer than the iron it replaces.

I am with you Murph.

My 3 hybrid has a steel shaft, like you i found the graphite one hit the ball too far.

I liked the 3 so much i bought a 2 with graphite v2 shaft as i struggle with fairway woods off the deck. The 2 hybrid is basically my 5 wood
