Hello guys my first post here, i am after a new golf driver but have'nt a clue which one to go for. I hit fairly straight but struggle getting distance and loft i want to pay up to £200 any help!!!

After my new purchase and trying a few out I would suggest Ping G5/G10.

You will get many varied answers to that question on here, including the old conumdrum, to custom fit or not. In general terms there are a lot of guys (including a previously cynical convert) who reckon Ping drivers are the best.
Persnally I use the Callaway Big Bertha 460 cc 11 degree loft with a regular shaft and find it a very useful tool. Others will tout Cobra Cleveland and Taylormade and some will offer lesser names. Don't be fooled. As shown in a lot of equipment reviews these so called lesser lights often perform equally well (sometimes better) than the bigger names.
At the end of the day it is a very persoanl choice. All I would say is go out onto a range or practice ground and hit them and see how they fly. Don't rely solely on hitting into a net or using computer generated info.

As above there are too many to mention, my first driver ever was a Forgan Rocket with a steel shaft, I hit it miles until I eventually broke the face off it. These days its a Mizuno MP600 driver. Ive had Callaways in between and they are in my opinion the easiest of all drivers to hit as they are fairly forgiving. get round to your local pro or at worst golf superstore and eyeball a few adn then see what your local pro can do for you.

I'm totally with Medwayjon here. My wife bought me my first Ping G5 3 years ago - a 12 degree, Graffaloy Blue stiff. It totally transformed my game - more fairways in regulation and very good distance. I became so consistant with it that I ended up buying the 10.5 degee model last year and have continued to hit it well.
When other manufacturers are charging upwards of £300 for their latest drivers, Ping have stuck with their £200 pricing policy (excluding the Rapture). A decent price for a very good bit of kit - you will not be dissappointed! I see more G5's in peoples bags at my club than any other driver (this probably has a lot to do with the price).

I would go for the Ben Ross V6 Trimass knowing how good they are and that they cost £70. I have the 3 wood and just ordered the 5 because the 3 wood has changed my game and I no longer fear teeing off or playing a 3 wood from the fairway or rough for that matter. So you could get a set of decent woods or a rescue for £150

I would go for either the Slazenger K1 Speed or Dunlop Blue Square thingy - only kidding, wouldn't touch either.
With £200 I would get myself to a shop with a range and have a full half day trying out the full range available, and as others have said don't be tempted by the brand but go for what suits you best.

I agree with the rest of the lads its a personal thing mate go to the range a hit them long i did this a ended up with a odd looking hippo hex driver which for me is outstanding.go on and hit range and u'll get the right 1

parmo, have you tried the G10 3-wood and if so how does/did it compare to your BenRoss? I am deficient of a 3w at the moment and while I would love the G10 (which I consider the best club in the G10 range) it would be that or new irons not both.

to be honest i havent tried any of the ping G10 and i10 stuf fbut i here its pretty good. Whats the main difference in the g10 and g5 rescue clubs?

I tried the g10 3 wood, and it is absolutely brilliant. Size of the head suited me perfectly and it got the ball in the air off the deck, as easy as most hybrids i've tried. I would have bought it at the time if I had the money.

I got a Ben Sayers Benny recently for £70 new. Its great value for money (grafalow prolaaunch shaft, GP multicompound grip) and in a recent GM test it came out ahead of much more expensive models, such as the Nike SQ5000.
You can get some cracking deals on last years models too, like the Mizuno MX560 - its loud but has good write ups. I've seen it for sale at less than 100 notes new.

I've just started using the G10 3 wood (15.5 degree fitted with Prolaunch Red "regular" shaft) and love it to bits already. My old Callaway Steelhead Plus were a tough act to follow as I played really well with these, very confident off the deck with my 3 wood. But the G10 has a better flight on it (with the Prolaunch shaft which keeps it a bit lower than the standard TFC Ping jobbie) and better distance as well.
Very first time I pulled it out to use it was on a short par 4 the other week. Drew the first shot into a lake which I wasn't best pleased about, but decided to have another go off the tee. Did exactly the same thing again. Thought I had made a mistake with it, but pulled it out a few holes later and hit one off the deck...straight as an arrow and beautiful flight. I used it 4 or 5 times more during the round and continued to hit it really well. It has a very shallow face to it, (which is weird because the G10 driver has a very deep face), and sits really well down behind the ball. Very confidence inspring, just don't tee it up too high if you use it off the blocks!
With regard the driver question I can echo Golfbugs comments above about the Ben Sayers "Benny"...I've got one in 10.5 degrees with Prolaunch red shaft (this really is a very good shaft) and hit it really well. I have just bought a G10 driver as I was offered a mint one at a very good price...I am tempted to take it out on Sunday and give it a belt, but the Benny performs so well for me I'm in two minds whether to risk it.
