Which course chewed you up, spat you out and why?

Royal Aberdeen.

A tougher golf course I have yet to find. Best of it is the 3 times I have played it it has been in it's Open that use at least the Medal tees and sometimes a couple of the tiger tees and I have always been with a local who tells me afterwards that todays breeze was just a light zephyr.....:mad:

Great golf course though,the 1st time I shot 92 scratch,1st time in countless years I had been in the 90's but I could have gladly walked straight onto the 1st tee again for another 18 holes.:lol:

I par'd the first and thought this was going to be a good day, however unfortunately for me this is one of the only tee shots where the tee box is parallel to the fairway. Thats a big problem for me and my alignment, so i was hitting it left & right all day and if you have never played here before believe me if you miss the fairway by a metre you better reload because 99% of the time its gone. You have to know your carrys in numbers as well as visually if your not on gps, pick a spot on the fairway align your body to it and make sure you hit it, for someone of my ability added with the distance this proved too much and i walked off with a 110.

My answer too! First time my mates and I played it (hcps 5, 11, 12, 24) I brought home a low 90s, mate off 11-high 90s, 12= 100-105
and 24 handicapper came in mid 110s.

I went back last year shot 79 for nett 74, the same ball went in the hole on 18 as I put on the tee at the first and could be seen dancing on the tables in celebration!
 
St Mellion!

basically every tee shot required a perfect drive otherwise you were in the trees or even a pond!!!
 
Aldeborough, 3rd Arpil this year in competition. 2'c, blowing a gale and greens that were 10+ on the stimp. Anyone who has played it also knows how tight the fairways are. Lots of long par fours. Distance control a nightmare - driver on a 200yd par 3 and a seven iron that carried 210yds downwind on a per four. Lots more shots like that. Par 68, SSS 72, CSS 75! 22 points and I was midfield....

yeah! lost a few balls in front of that green! just glad they dont have a patio over looking that green!
 
My first visit to Woodhall Spa way way back in the mists of time. There was only one course back then, privately owned by the Hotchkin family. Neil, the son of Colonel Hotchkin, was to be seen wandering the course doing bits of green keeping. I was off 5 at the time playing in a scratch event off the back tees. I came off 14 over par after playing well and was chuffed with the score.
 
My home club is breadsall priory, I was a member for a short while at horsley the greens there are sublime!

Im a big fan of ruddington grange as well, its not Augusta but for what you pay you wont find many better courses.

What courses are good are chesterfield? not really played much up that way.

Played the Moorland at Breadsall last year,I played pants there as well;) that was down to me though not the toughness of the course although it is far from a pushover, the rough was brutal when I played it. Chesterfield GC is good but can be a bit pricey and snooty, Tapton is a good challenging course but can get very wet and boggy but if we have had a dry period of weather then it is well worth a visit. Matlock GC is also good but very hilly. They would be the 3 I would play if I were a visitor to the area
 
Lytham, If you were lucky enough to stay out of the bunkers and hit the fairways then it wasn't too difficult to negotiate. But if you missed the fairways.....game over, rough like barbed wire, almost impossible to muscle it out.

It was either birdies, pars or total nightmares.
 
The Hotchkin, Woodhall Spa when we played the Forum Meet there. Am going back to play it again this summer when hopefully I will get some revenge.
 
St Enodoc always kicks me in the ass, but I am yet to play it without there being a 30mph+ wind blowing.

Perranporth - the 1 time I've played it - made me look like a clown. Bone hard, cold and windy. Blind shots everywhere, course was close to unplayable. Paul Broadhurst was in a group 2 behind us and said that he would give up if he had to play that course all the time.
