Id be interested to know which course you have played that you in particular found difficult and why? as others may not have the same flaws in their game and find them relatively easy...it could be too many bunkers etc etc.

For me it is Royal St Davids at Harlech, to be fair to them there is a warning about high handicap players on their website but even that didnt prepare me for the task ahead. It was a sunny day, no wind. I par'd the first and thought this was going to be a good day, however unfortunately for me this is one of the only tee shots where the tee box is parallel to the fairway. Thats a big problem for me and my alignment, so i was hitting it left & right all day and if you have never played here before believe me if you miss the fairway by a metre you better reload because 99% of the time its gone. You have to know your carrys in numbers as well as visually if your not on gps, pick a spot on the fairway align your body to it and make sure you hit it, for someone of my ability added with the distance this proved too much and i walked off with a 110.

Id love to go back one day but maybe when ive made single figures.

The Old Links at Balyliffin every time i've played it i've been shocking but its sister course The Glashedy i've played to my handicap and below every time ,no idea just can't get my alignment set on that course for some reason

Baltray (Co Louth GC) where the Irish open was held a few years ago and Shane Lowry won it still as an Am. It has a very tame first couple of holes then it seems to tighten the rest of the way round with elevated teeboxes that make diagonal fairways look like matchsticks which you cannot afford to miss. Was -2 after 6 holes last time and ended up +10, great course though.

he PGA Course at The Belfry. Knee deep rough versus my 24 handicap meant that I lost more balls in one round than I had before or since.

only one course has done this to me. my home course has given me a few mild kickings.

rossapenna is the only one to make me feel like ive got 10 rounds with mike tyson. things started well enough as i had a good score through 7 holes. the rain and wind came storming in and i started losing everything off the tee. 5 blanks in a row later and i was left feeling black and blue.

im due another revenge game there !

My home course every week..... sadly i'm not even joking.

I give the club house/pro shop a miss afterwards 99% of the time or i'd end up handing my bag of clubs over and asking for a refund on my membership. Blasted game.

Which course? I think the Sandy Hills is a cracker.

First time I played Dondonald it was in a stiffish wind.
We usually play stableford but on the first tee I said, shall we play matchplay for a change.
Lost 6/5 and if it had been a medal I would have been over 100 [for the first time since I was about 12 years old]

Next time we played I found the course much easier and somewhat shorter.

Hopeman. A combination of stiff wind, unbelievable slice and lots of whins led to losing an unlikely number of balls. Even the one drive I nailed straight ran out of fairway on a dogleg, into light rough and simply vanished!

This was also the day I hit the clubhouse but managed to scramble a par on that hole. No idea about my score that day but must have been over 100....

Played at Lundin Links with one of my mates a few years back and just couldn't get the ball close to the hole with my approach shots. Probably had more three putts that day, over 36 holes, than over the rest of the season put together :o

I found the front 9 at West Lancs real tough. Tight, difficult greens and penal rough.... Fish would disagree with me though ;)

Saying this, I didn't find the back 9 much easier either

I've played Royal Troon many times and although there have been occasions when I've felt I've played well, I've always walked off feeling that I've had a kicking. Especially from the back nine.

Toughest back 9 in golf and yes I include Carnoustie in that. Into any sort of wind it becomes an absolute monster! Vastly under rated track in my opinion.

Ha it destroyed me last year! Won a nice bag of pink tee for my trouble so wasn't all bad. Will have to see if I can do any better this year. I vote we do not start at the back tees. Started well on the Glashedy and then sobered up and went to pot. I know I can do better though.

Galgorm is another that spat me out. Didn't help it was the week prior to a Europro tour event and was being preped for that. Rough was a lot longer than it would normally have been. They had "cut" it going away from the tee boxes to help but it was being grown to allow it to be cut back towards the tee for the comp.

Portsalon also did a number on me but then again I could list every course I've played :).

The Oxfordshire first time I played it on a windy day.
Some of the carries to the fairway were virtually impossible without a career shot...

Royal Dornoch the first 10 times I played it.:)

It’s a fantastic golf course, but very tough, there’s no streaky rounds, if you shoot a good score you have played well, very well.

It’s not surprising that most opens are Reduction Only.;)
