Which Brand has risen the most?

They were crude and basic and brand image was poor. How many skoda gags were out there? It doesn't mean that there were not positives but the difference in brand image between then and now is huge.
Skoda were rammel. That’s it in one sentence. And yes they have had a meteoric rise. could put Man City in there as well coz they were rammel once. ?

I will take your Skoda and raise you KIA. Another brand churning out cheap, basic cars (I had to drive an old Kia Rio as a garage loaner for a day, awful) but now pretty respected and commanding prices on par with Ford etc.
A few other South Korean brands have really excelled in the last 10 years or so. Samsung, Hyundai, LG, etc. I've never owned a Korean car, but they're as popular as anything else around here.
There are more Samsung mobile phones globally than iPhones.

Have to agree, the tech in a Samsung phone seems to me to be quite a way ahead of Apple, roles have reveresed and they are the innovators and Apple are playing catch up. Used to love my old Hyndai Coupe but not seen any exciting releases from them in a while (though the 4x4s looked decent).

In order to balance the universe and have some positivity, let's have some upbeat stories.

Can anyone top Skoda? Appalling reputation in the 70's and 80's, transformed in the 90's and beyond. Now they are very respected, total redemption.

QUOTE="Blue in Munich, post: 2489750, member: 17247"]Sorry, what appalling reputation? They may have had an appalling image amongst the snobby British motorist, but as the husband of a former owner, we have no issues with them; reliable, easy to work on when necessary (which wasn't often), perfect utilitarian transport for the country of manufacture. Might not have had many bells and whistles, but they certainly didn't have an appalling reputation that we were aware of.[/QUOTE]

So now you're agreeing with me (y)

How many Irish gags or Essex girl gags are there out there; are they all true or based on stereotypes?

I'll fully agree that their image was appalling but having owned and worked on one, I'd take it over a number of other cars of that era. Didn't do too badly in their class in rallying either.

A friend of mine had one in the late 80's so I'm not going purely off image. With a brand, image and reputation are sometimes out of a companies control and skoda being the butt of jokes at that time was partly unfair. On that we certainly do agree.

They were very rough and ready, they were way behind other brands at the time in term of interior and refinement. If you don't agree with that, that's fine, we disagree ?‍♂️ None of that applies now though, hence the point about them rising the most.

Skoda & Lada were always joked about when I was younger ??

Hotel Chocolat- apparently it started online in 2004, with a £10k bank loan.
Now has shops and cafes on the high street as well, and is a multi million pound business.

Yep - got one in our local high street. We've been given a few boxes over the years - I love chocolate, but to me their stuff just tastes of sugar. Can't see why they're succeeding in almost the exact same premises where Thornton's failed. They don't even sell Special Toffee!

Costa and Starbucks.
I like coffee, and we always make ‘proper’ coffee at home, but it’s unfathomable to me the way coffee has taken over Britain? We used to be a nation of tea drinkers! When did the memo come round that we all had to fall in love with coffee?
Even stranger, though, is the price people will pay for it and the waiting times to get a bloody take away hot drink? It absolutely baffles me how big this entire industry has become?

I guess because they're trendy whereas Thornton's became familiar and old-hat, too many people are more interested in the image than the quality of the product.

The coffee shop has replaced the pub, more people meet for a coffee (I have a tea) as life's are busier and busier .
