When I first took up this game some 27 years ago (wow, didn't realize it was that far back until I just thought about it), I had a reasonable ability. I played off 17 at my best but when I remarried 12 years ago, golf went onto the back burner, in fact for 10 years I didn't pick up a club at all. About 2 years ago I started playing again, I joined a club for the first time last year and now have my first official handicap of 26. This is somewhat disappointing because on a good day I can play to the same level I played all those years ago, when I'm out for a knock about on my todd I can shoot around 90 - 94, but if I pair up with someone else at the club or play with some good friends, my game completely disintegrates.

I played with some friends yesterday, I started of 7,6,7,6,7,6, I just could not string my game together, a number of duffed shots cost me at least a eight shots on the front nine. I did eventually manage to chip in for a birdie on the 7th, but it was short consolation on the front 9 where I turned in 53. Played much better on the back nine coming home in 47,but even this was at the cost of 4 shots or so that shouldn't have been. I just couldn't get into the game at all, this is becoming a source of frustration, because I can't seem to transfer the game I play on my own to the game I play against others.

I know the guys I play with are all much better, so I try to play me against the course rather than to compete against them directly. It's fast becoming a phsycological headache when I can't play a good game with my friends. I know my game is out there somewhere, just can't seem to find it at the moment......... :(

are you playing the wrong game? by that I mean chasing scores. do you ever play bogey? it's a certain way to make you play one hole at a time.

since you're not that far from me, and are used to getting beat :p, what say we meet up some time?

I seem to play better when i pair up i seem to feel like i have a bit of competition so it forces me to play a bit better maybe its a good thing :| .......

I always seem to play better when I'm not expecting too much.
If I'm really looking forward to playing a particular course or a particular match, then it's usually a recipe for disaster somewhere during the day.....

I am not looking forward to going to Lanhydrock next weekend.
