Went out last night and played for first time in over a couple of weeks.

Didnt expect much and was just after keeping my touch and trying to get the new grip right.

Didnt play out of my skin so wont bore you with numbers but....

For some reason, everything felt good. Grip was ok, great body turn, felt relaxed, swing was right tempo was awsome, the result...

I kept finding a further 10 even 20 yards with the irons. ANd I dont mean total I mean carry. Yes its warm and hard but my 7 iron carried 170 last night, I would expect it to carry 150 struck well.

I hit a perfect 7 iron to what I would normally take a 5 and be a little short.

It was so frustrating hitting the ball so well but being off the green behind because I had too much club.

This happened to anyone else?

Re: Where's did that come from then?

Only once Tony. This was back about 10 years ago when the lofts on irons were a club weaker. I used to hit my 7 iron 140 through the air, but on one occasion, even before I'd hit an iron shot, I just 'knew' as I stood over my first 140 shot in clam balmy conditions it was a 9 iron. It just looked like it. That continued all day.

Very weird.

Tony , perhaps because of the fact that you hadn't played much and so didn't expect much , you relaxed , took all the tension out of your swing and so swung with super smoothness ?.

Tony, you get times like that mate,We are always being told "don't hit it hard, hit it sweet" have found over the last few months practicing, that it really does work, good isn't it. :) :)

Did you have three shredded wheat?

Seriously though its just one of those things, there can be course conditions i.e. warm, little humidity, wind, and also perhaps you made a slight swing alteration.

A few ago months I eagled our 17th with a 294yrd drive (normally 270-275yrds) and a 5-iron 210yrds uphill (normally 185yrds). Last thursday I hit a 9-iron 165yrds, normally 135-140yrds.

Take it while you can mate, let us know if your next round is the same.

It was, been out today and I was still hitting the ball a club to far, again, frustrating because when I club down, I know i'll end up going back to normall.

Hi Tony done it before group in front on the green and a group behind pushing you,I will just lay up to keep the game going nice steady swing then you cream it.Followed by an apology of why you hit the ball to the green.Wish i could have a steady swing all the time,Good luck Scotty Hunting. ;) ;)

Tony
do you think it's because you took a break and this is something that can help all us addicts soimetimes?
I've been playing and practising constantly lately but have made a point of taking a few days off from the game to hopefully regroup myself and rest. I just felt I was getting weary and tired of playing and getting nowhere. I was trying this swing that swing, this set up that set up infinitum.

Then when you play with some one with a much better handicap but an aweful swing but he knows how to score well with his limited ability you know it's time to have a rethink

anyway will let you know how it pans out

A break can definitly help. I wasn't expecting to play well at all, I was quite surprised how good my swing was because normally it feels a little ropey after a few weeks off. I wanted to concentrate purely on path and tempo and everything fell into place! It didnt last though! :D
