When you take out the flag...

...do you just drop it to the ground, or do you lower it gently onto the green?

I only ask as recently I've seen people literally throwing it down

When I take the flag out i normally drop it my foot then it goes on the ground from there.

As long as it's not in the middle of a massive green take it to the fringe anyway.

Lower it from the flag part itself and it "drops" from probably a foot off the ground.

Used to lower it with my putter, but I seem to have lost the co-ordination to do so.

The grounds man actually reported a group that were "persistant offenders" and they were subsequently removed from the course.

I "think" it's written somewhere in the course rules and etiquette book all members are given when they join our club (but don't quote me)

my normal practice is to use my putter as a lever to lower the flagstick.
remove flag from hole, place lower part on ground and flag area on putter, i feel this helps prevent unwanted indents on the green, i use the back of the putter to pick the flagstick up sometimes as well. Why bend if not necessary

If I am playing on my own I leave it in there. When playing with others I normally just lower it.

I use it like a javelin and try to get it to stick in the green to save having to bend down to pick it up again. Havnt managed it yet but theres always a first time

No seriously place bottom on fringe of green and use my foot to lower the flag to ground

Bob, excellent question. This is one thing I never understand when playing with people and they just drop the flag on the green
I'm a rest it on the putter lower it type of guy, but yes one of my pet hates.

its actually very rare i leave it on the green, once every one is on if i take the pin i normally place it on the fringe.

If it's close enough to the fringe I will drop it there, if not, I will place it on the green, bottom first. I hate seeing them thrown like javelins!
