Do you have a plan B?

When you're out there and the wheels fall off, do you have a swing thought/favourite rescue/favourite iron that you can rely on.
As I dont have a handicap to worry about, I experiment alot on the course.
Sometimes a new swing thought works for a few days, sometimes months but in the end, I always go back to my old trusty swing. Not as powerful as some of the young bucks on here, but it gets me round.
So can you fall back on a swing or favourite club when things go wrong?

when it all starts to go wrong, I go back in my stance. Off the tee il hit 2 iron from just back of middle of stance with a punch follow through. 75% strength. Its my fall back shot, goes low and straight 95% of time. Il try and mimic this for my other irons also if im really having a stinker. When things are bad, my driver becomes dangerous, not to me, to other people.

In this situation, fav club = 2 iron and then prey for the best!

p.s. i wish i didnt have a handicap!

5 Iron. It's always been my security blanket. That, and more recently my 7 iron.

I'm going to try and play with my head on friday and not necessarily take the big dog off the tee, unless it's really neccessary.

I wish I was playing at Stoke Park though :(

It would be a thought to me, that is 'Slow down'. That usually improves things.

I have no fall back club, if it goes tits up out there then it's try and rely on good chipping and putting to limit damage.

I've got a fall back shot which still gets the ball in play and round the course.

I can always hit a kind of punchy slice whatever the situation. Tee up on the right of the blocks, aim down the left rough and slice it back in play.

Then rely on my short game to still put a decent score on the board.

if the game is falling appart teh driver gets shelved and the 3w normally comes out as this is generally my safety club. I can normally judge how my game is going to be within the first 4 drives of the game, good drives normally means a half decent swing and a decent score card.

Now im finding when my game goes bad im opting for my 3w rescue, but one habbit im trying to get out of is changing things on the course. if im hooking left through no turn and all arms swinging with my driver i have to remember what is causing it and not changing anything else.

When the wheels fall off and it all goes tits up, I always resort back to the same thing - throw my clubs, kick my bag and sulk! :D

Depends on the reason. If my driving is poor I may resort to 3I off the tee, if it's the short game/putting just resolve to concentrate properly. You have to accept that sometimes it's just not your day and maybe just bad luck affects things. I always try to have a good back 9 and treat the 10th as a fresh start. Our back 9 is much the easier of the two so useful in getting the confidence level up again.

24 degree 4 hybrid is my safety blanket. I can hit it anywhere from 150 - 190 yards. Also great out of the rough and fairway bunkers and useful for the odd chip around the greens if you find a bad lie. Tee shots are guaranteed to go straight as well.
Can't ever remember hitting many bad shots with it, so if I'm having a bad day with the irons, then I get my trusty friend out for a few holes to get my confidence back.

. . . with the driver I'll persist until it's too late to recover then switch to the 3-w or 4-i, then find they're just as bad and it was the swing after all.

4i hybrid is my emergency club as well. The Ping G10 model that I have is so consistant and so flexible that I can pull it out the bag in most emergencies whether that be off the tee, the fairway or out of the rough.

my problem is that more often than not I do not and persist with the problem clubs in the mistaken belief that I can turn it around.

For me I have an 75% swing that is shorter and more deliberate and I tend to be a bit safer in shot selection hit the middle of the greens etc, in short just try and get it round in the least possible

I dont have a fav club or short back up swing. If its going tits up with the driver then tough cos I wont back off , i'll trust my swing to come back. I take different clubs off different tees so I usually have a good spread of types of shot through the round. If its going pear-shaped with every club then I just try to get it near the green and use my red hot short game to get a score :D

Otherwise just shrug the shoulders and get on with it.

i used to have a plan b. I had a couple of simple swing thoughts that resurrected everything. I tried this last time out, but i couldn't stop thinking about what my pro said was wrong with my game and things went from bad to worse...

turn the shoulders with the arms and get to a nice finish position.

As you know, i'm now on plan C = take a break from the game and come back fighting/smiling :)

Depends on what's not working.

Driver - I'll drop to my 3-wood or sometimes 3h
Long Irons - I'll use my 7i and if I come up short then short is ok.
Short Irons - Usually just go with my PW, again if I'm short, no biggy. I'm closer than I was.
If my pitching isn't going well, duffing it with my 52 or 58 I'll just use my PW and run it in rather than ply it in.
On the fringe I'll usually use a 7i, but will switch to my putter if I'm having trouble with distance control.
Putter - Well if that's not working then I just try to focus on just taking it back in a straight line and forward in a straight line.
