Got to agree with Homer as well there, as long as someone is aware that they're slow and is letting groups through (and perhaps isn't being over the top with an app or a skycaddie) then where's the problem?

Was out Saturday in a Stableford and was talking about this with my playing partner - we were stuck behind a 4-ball that was duffing every other shot and we were getting frustrated about not being let through. But the the point we were talking about is that we weren't being called through, not that they were rubbish. 2 years ago, I was one of those hackers and the same bloke I was with this weekend was going round with me and putting up with my 120+ rounds, not complaining, and teaching me as a complete beginner that if there are groups behind waiting for us on every tee then we have to let them through.

All of which I suppose is a long-winded way of repeating and agreeing with "If he pays his money, abides by the dress code, adheres to the etiquette and enjoys himself where is the issue."
 
The OP mentioned the Pro giving lessons to this Guy.
In my opinion, the Pro maybe should take him to one side and question whether more lessons are really going to make a difference. If the Pro is effectively taking money from him and the punter is not seeing any improvement, doen't the Pro have a Professional Duty to put a stop to it?
I've done this once or twice as a Driving Instructor.
I've had clients in the car who are patently never, ever going to be able to control a car - they make Maureen from the TV prog a few years back look like Alonso and Button.
I've told them that if they want to continue then I'll keep taking their money, but realistically they're not going to improve to a standard anywhere near being able to pass the test.
I would consider it to be taking money under false pretence if I didn't give them the option.

I have no problem with the Guy continuing playing - long may this game pull all kinds and abilities together.
But the Pro should think twice about giving him more lessons unless there is likely to be genuine improvement.

the difference to a muni and a private club is the fancy a game brigade tend to go to the local muni for £10-£12 not the £35-£45 a round private club.I agree you can have nice muni courses but i remember the bad old days of having to play a muni and waiting for the 5/6 ball in front to finish their lager before a tee shot,as for taking 130 strokes a round if he is still doing it after 12 months and lessons i think the pro is using him as a cash cow my advise pack in as it not the game for you,and if you fancy hitting a golf ball just go to the range.

Surely St Andrews Links is a muni! Its a pay and play - even if you do have to go into a ballot! Its not a private club - there are clubs associated with the courses, but you have to join the club and buy a links ticket.
Please dont write off munis - or people who whack their way round in 130.
And our munis dont cost a tenner - try £25!
Or you can whack your way round one of the courses at St Andrews for £60 to £130 ;)

My old club in Hampshire had a rule that unless you were single figure handicap, you had to serve two years as a five day member before getting a seven day membership.
 
If he still enjoys playing then he should keep going, as long as he ensures he does not stop others from enjoying their game.
 
We have someone like that at our club, its best not to get frustrated and spoil your own game just look at it from the point of view you have longer to admire your surroundings :)

i was refering to the guy who had to log every shot on his app. 20yard duffs with the 7 iron and all. it was stated that he kept everyone back and noone wants to play with him again. all this even after being told to stop it.

i have no probs with people shooting +100. im marking cards for my mates handicap at the min and he has shot over 100 in both rounds so far. theres one or two of my other mates who i dont think would even enjoy the big course as their game is not good enough yet so i wouldnt take them out.
 
i should make clear im fighting for this guy and in his corner, other chaps i play with are ready to string him up. Like everybody i know during his round he still produces that one shot that equalls tiger which gives him hope and brings him back for more. However i still worry about the money this chap is paying for lessons where clearly he has no obvious natueral ability. Thanks for everyones comments a very interesting response which highlights the majority of support that is on offer.

so they would let a football top n jeans on at ST ANDREWS then or the 4 ball playing out of one bag i don't think so,there are munis and munis.How many times do you see the numbers increase at your club HEIDI when golf is on the tele in summer same as tennis everyone thinks they can play like the pros,even the lager louts and scumbags as for the cost the muni local to me mid week costs £14 to play plus £5 club hire( deposit refunded ) £22 week end.
 
The time to stop is when you decide you are not enjoying it, not when someone tells you to stop. Golf is meant to be inclusive, not exclusive. People saying he has no place on the course says more about them than him. He will either get better, or get bored, either way the situation will improve.

i will say one thing ,,the pro coach isn't going to tell his payday to pack in ,,,he will say something like, your swing is improving,,your grip looks better,,try and practice as much as you can ,,,do you want to book in for next week

Personally I think someone needs to have a word with the guy and suggest the problem might be in the way the pro is teaching. He might be telling the guy the right things but the way he is getting the message across isn't working. I have that with the club pro at my place. Decent enough teacher but I can never quite grasp exactly what I'm trying to do, certainly a few days later. Its still 70% there and better than what went before. My current teacher is bang on though. Very simple and easy to understand. Even if this guy only books one lesson somewhere it gives him something to compare ti against
