Just back from a round at Rudding Park with a mate on the 2-4-1 voucher. We both had a great time despite the horrendous weather. Started off bitterly cold, then snowed so hard you couldn't see your ball or any grass for a couuple of holes, then brightened up and then snowed...unbelievable stuff.

Played like an arse though with 53 out! Haven't shot that in ages. Got some respectability back with 43 in but once again a massive number of putts (39). J_F's sold me a dud!

My main reason for posting though is that despite the snow, having to use hedgehog trolleys, a winter hole replacing the 14th and the website indicating summer prices start on April 1st, they charged us the summer rate of £40 instead of £26!

So, driving snow, winter greens and winter trolleys makes it summer now does it? We would have argued but with a 2-4-1 voucher I always feel on shaky ground. Didn't ruin the day but can't believe they had the nerve to do it all things considered!

Don't let the club away with this. Report them to the 2 for 1 administrators. The club have happily enough signed up to 2 for 1 to get punters in then gone back on the deal by weedling cash out of you they shouldn't be able to by claimimg it's summer rates when it is not. This kind of thing drives me mad. 2 for 1 should get the money back off the club in question and refund you the extra you paid.
Dont stand for it!

Have to agree. I'd be writing to the club asking for an explanantion and telling them that you will be writing to the worlds greatest golf magazine to name and shame them. Bad publicity is normally pretty good for provoking a repsonse.

I agree with birdieman in that I'd also write to the 2-for-1 administrators although I'm not sure how much leeway they have for deciding what and when clubs charge.

Says £27 on the website. CRYSTAL CLEAR. No ambiguity whatsoever.....

£39.50 after 1/4/08 "Bank Holidays charged at Fri-sun rates."

I might know someone who knows someone who runs this place......

????

I wouldn't have paid it, there'd have been a scene, dread to think  :D.....it's not about the money, it's the principle.

the fact that the summer rates are advertised as of april the 1st would have been enough for me to kick off, its still a week away! summer seems like 6 months away.

Not sure what you're saying here? :D

Thanks to the bolshi lot, I think I will take this up as I now feel right to feel disgruntled. You can't just put prices on line and then charge differently. It is interesting to note that even if you book on-line, it still charges you summer rates.

Certainly I think that 2-fore-1 should know about it at least.

What do you think? Email or proper letter? And more importantly, who would be the best person to bitch at?

Me personally would contact the club and say, i realised when i got home that you over charged me. And if they say no we didnt then just explain to them what you pointed out to us. If they dont atleast offer you a round for free i would say 'well i wonder what the chaps at golf monthly, trading standards and 2 fore 1 would think about this!

Well, I thought I'd give them the opportunity to be nice about it and I've just emailed the club politely pointing out that their website clearly shows a pricing structure which they ignored, threw in all the extra details about the winter conditions in play and then asked them to do something about it.

I also pointed out that if they didn't I would be contacting 2-4-1 and GM about it as it's only fair to warn other golfers. I didn't even mention you psychotic lot being on the warpath!

I really hope they see some sense. It's a lovely course and I'd hate to have to rule it out over something as stupid as this. I will keep you informed!

Thanks for the support guys.

Good course of action. It is always best to be nice first and give them a chance to rectify the 'mistake'. Only when they show no interest in rectifying the problem is it worth getting the (non-physical) threats going. I have been quite successful with getting good results from complaints and perserverance is the key. Most companies etc rely on people simply giving up so keep going and the outcome is normally positive.
If you have to email them again, include a link to this thread to show the bad PR that they are already getting.
