When are you satisfied with your clubs?

At what point do you say "This is it?"

These are the clubs I will use for the next few years

I am happy and satisfied that these clubs are the best for me and any problems are due to my technical failings and not the club

I ask the question coz My little brother Imurg ( who just won the monthly stableford and got cut to 9.6) has just aquired his third driver in 2 months

Ok his old one was a bit naff occasionally, then he got a square thingy which went really well for about a month , then started heading off right at 45 degrees, so he has binned that and got a cleveland launcher, which works great on the range (at the moment.)

But I expect that in 5 or 6 weeks it will start to veer right again, so he will get a "Pongo Antifade" model to compensate.

Where does it stop and are there any other "Serial" golf club changers out there.

And before he hs a go, yes I have changed my irons, putter and hybred in the last month, but for the first time in 5 years and as a result of a back op which has left me wuth a slightly more upright stance. So There...

There's nothing I could justify changing in my bag at the minute...a scotty would look nice but I know I don't need one, my putting is fine.

I havn't driven consistently well for about 2 1/2 years. I've had pointers from a mate who's a Pro, some help from Bobmac and, yes, a few different drivers. And before anyone says " Have a lesson" it would be pointless as I don't have the time or the patience to practice any changes they may make. It might also bugger up the rest of my game which is going quite well.
I've been C/F a Titleist 909 D2 which worked (ish) but just wasn't forgiving enough, an R9 that I didn't get on with and recently an FTi - can't seem to hit it straight. I won the comp using a 4 wood most of the time. Hit driver 3 times in 3 directions but the 4 wood went straight - go figure.
I'll keep looking and changing until I find one that works more often than not. After warming up, I hit the Launcher well 80% of the time against the FTi 30%.

If this doesn't work I can see me using a strong 3 wood instead.

Oh and the FTi sounds so horrific I get embarressed using it...

I was a victim of all thing shiny and putter related a few years back. I was having real trouble getting it in the hole and there was not way it could have been my fault. At one point I think there were seven fairly new putters in the spare room (and an old ping anser 2).

I got putting lessons and learnt that maybe a combination of poor grip, closed shoulders and open stance plus a loopy takeaway and breaking the right wrist through impact weren't a great combination. Since my lesson I've been putting much better and down to just three putters.

I also went through a phase of changing irons. I went for a Cally X20 set in graphite (C/F at AG) foresaking my X14's which had served me brilliantly. I couldn't get on with the X20 in steel and was only marginally better in a graphite. I ended up getting TM tour burners after a TM demo day and having my swing analysed on a Flightscope monitor. I was doing OK with them but promised myself if I got to 10 I'd buy a set of TM TP's. Went on a demo day in June and found out I couldn't hit the TP's to save my life. However I was in AG when the TM rep was showing off the new R9's and tried both the TP and regular model. I wanted the TP but struggled with the hevier shaft. Now I have the R9's I'm equipped to get down to single figures with some hard work and good fortune and really can't see myself swapping again anytime soon

I have to say I was slightly swayed into buying my Scotty by the fact that most people on here who don't have one want one.

I'm wondering though whether I'll have a different relationship with my clubs because I've started with lessons and am gradually building up my bag with custom fit clubs. I bloody hope so as the missus will go mental if I develop a club buying fetish, and trust me she'll know (I think they have a sixth sense to detect when you've spent cash you shouldn't have).

Homer might be onto something with clothing and shoes though. Out of curiosity Homer Imelda Marcos how many pairs do you have?

I am content and have been for over a year with my set. The one thing I dont do is have lots options in the garage. If I buy a new club I get rid of the old one to take away temptation to tinker after one bad round.

I too suffer from driver change syndrome, in the first year back playing I have had a Ping G5, Cleveland Hi-bore xl tour,Mizuno mx560, Mizuno mp600 and now a Ping G10. The best out of the lot was the Mizzy Mx560 reg with pro launch blue shaft. I should never have changed that one and I cannot find one anywhere now, tried E-bay and a few stores. If I find another I'll snap it up straight away.

I bought some clubs off ebay when I decided to start again to see if I would like it and want to carry on.

When I realised I'd got the bug again the clubs went back on ebay and I got c/f'd for what I have now.

I've bought a couple of different putters but now I'm happy with that I can't see me changing anything anytime soon, even though I'd probably benefit from an easier to hit driver.

If I could play off 10 with the clubs I could afford as a teenager I'm sure I can get to single figures with what I have now, even though they might not be the best for me.

Time for a 10° FT-iQ with regular flex Fubuki 60 shaft NOT the tour version though. You have to really go some to hit it right! Leaves the clubface like a rocket and doesn't sound too bad either.... well I quite like it which is why I have an FT-iQ in the post My Titleist sounds incredible when I thrash it but it's all spin! not really what you want for long drives.

7!!!! How can you have 7 especially for playing in? Is it the colours, the spikes, smart v casual? I feel so inadequate in the footwear department.

Fair point but I have not needed new jeans in ages and live in the same rugby shirts year in year out so really do spend very little. I buy one new pair of boots a year and that is about it.

I've decided i wont change my irons until i get down to 18 purely as an incentive to improve. I only changed my driver this year from 9.5* to 12* because i needed a more forgiving big stick which i'm happy with.

On the whole i'm more than happy with my gear and not looking to change though i do like trying all the new gear, i just need to start playing consistantly.

I change gear too much, I admit it but I don't spend that much as I buy second hand except for wedges. I don't hold onto any spare clubs at all either, anything that's not in the bag gets sold.
Actually made £20 changing putters recently!
In current bag I'm not too keen on the Nike gap wedge (tour van club that is too stiff), would prefer another vokey but they're a bit pricey.
