One thing our course has got that not many courses do have is an on course wheel wash for your trollies.

Give it a couple of days and you'll have a tent full of causals with foam, buckets and sponges who only charge "a few quid for cash mate..."

Sadly it's a common sight on many courses this year. I've seen quite a few sodden courses. I think the problem is that there has been that much rain the course just doesn't have time to recover. I'm not sure what you can expect the greens staff to do.

This piggin' puddle sits there, well actually almost all year!

Well last nights meeting was interesting. Mr Captain joined in with my questioning of why this puddle was there and what was / could be done. What he really wanted to SCREAM was WHY THE NUTS AREN'T YOU DOING ANYTHING !!!!!!! He actually said it was starting to "smell". Now this ain't good. I've asked for it to be put as GUR to keep people away from all the bad bits but the Head GK said basically that made no difference as players walked though it anyway and winter was almost hear so we''ll be on lift and place soon. BUT, we are going to dig out the two ponds near by and the ditch in the hope that in doing so it will improve the flow of water though the course and therefore drainage. They really don't know if this will work, but at least something is being tried. I asked if we knew that all the drains were running clear with no blockages. He didn't know. Lets see eh? Next meeting Nov 2.

It's tough as on our course there are so many drains it's trying to identify the old ones and then checking them all. Something like that could be easily ringed off with hoops to stop people going through it. It's not rocket science. I've learnt there are no quick and easy answers to any of these but you do have to have a plan in place to try and resolve the bad areas.

How did the Nov 2nd meeting go? Any improvements or ideas. That puddle's not far off needing red/yellow stakes!

Well, when the head greenkeeper started his report and started wittering on about having to tidy up around the first tee and finish off a job around the putting green that they started in April, I jumped in and questioned if this was a good use of their time when the back nine was under water! (slight exaggeration I know). The ladies jumped in and countered that, ooooooo the first tee does need tidying up. "Well that's ok then if you want the place to revert back to a nine hole golf course". A least I got my say in, and it got minuted coz I've got the minutes on Monday and it says that our HGK is to sort it out over the winter. So watch this space. I believe that some clearing on ponds have taken place, lord knows why they think this will help, but I've not been over as when I could the course is shut. Apart from one day when I went over to check something with our pro and was going to wander over to check out what's been done but the rain was lashing down, so didn't bother.

I went for a knock yesterday and part of the course was shut that isn't normally (12/13/14) so that was odd, so as I walked over to the 15th the tee was so afar up it made it a little flick to the green and as this is where are puddles are I didn't bother. I walked over to see how much bigger they were and OMG the green staff had dug some holes in one of them down to, would you believe it drains, small stones , directly beneath the, now gone, puddle. Investigation work has commenced it seems. Hurrah! Will they carry on? The pond, 30 meters away to the left of the 15th green was blue in colour. Ooooooo dye, it would appear. After a chat with the Pro afterwards, it appears that the dye took 1 hour to get from the hole to the pond, as the greens staff waited, they thought it was blocked, but then it got through. I said, to the Pro, that it seems that there must be a blockage as there is no way it would take an hour. I also suggested that our head GK put a notice up to explain what he was doing, what he had discovered and what he was going to do about it, as he needs to keep the members informed. I doubt he will do this.
To conclude from yesterday:- One of the monster puddles has gone. The drains are blocked in that area. The ground where the hole, it went down about a meter, was dug, was sodden all the down to the drainage stones. The area approaching the 15th was walkable on, for the first time in 2 years. Water was flowing into the pond from the large drain pipe, like you wouldn't believe. Please let them continue after this promising start. If it were me I'd be so chuffed with this so far, I'd have to continue until it was all sorted. Smiley face from me :)

Great news hopefully they see it through to the conclusion and get it fixed once and for all

We have had terrible problems on our par 5 first for the last couple of years when we get a few wet days in a row. They worked out that the drains were blocked and have now excavated the problem area. This is what they found: IMG-20171214-WA0001.jpg

Great to see they've tackled the problem. I've not been over to ours for over a week (snow-ice-rain course closed) I hope our lot are still keeping to the task of sorting the drains. They should have as they've had nowt else to do!

The two holes that they dug are still there. Area not cordoned off. No sign of any other work done yet. But at least the holes are still there, so that's a plus, yes?

We have an approx 30 foot long trench dug that is about 3 feet deep with new pipes waiting to go in it. There has also been a few tonnes of loose stones delivered waiting to go on top when the pipes are laid. Hopefully this will all be done in the next few weeks and we will be back to normal for the start of the season.
