whats your progress?

I'm pleasantly happy. Got down from fourteen to twelve and looked to push on but hasn't quite happened. However my short game has got better and especially my putting. I'm scoring well in patches but can't quite get two nines together simultaneously. I have some driver issues to resolve but feel competitive everytime I tee it up. Last year I over practiced my long game way too much and became jaded and incorporated a number of swing faults. This year less has been more. As a result I would stand on the first last year and really have no idea where it was going. At least now I aim at the right bunker and it normally goes where I want it to.

I've still got a number of gold letter events to play for and the monthly competitions so plenty left to aim for.

Good so far this year. Started at 18 and currently off 16. This has been down to a determination to play at least once a week and a course of lessons working on my short game. As I have mentioned in another thread - the lessons are the best golfing present I have ever had.
If my progress seems less than dramatic, I will add that I feel as if I am playing as well as I ever have (I've been as low as 13 before) and I have shot 3 rounds in the 70s this year. My course is short and the Standard Scratch is tough. I shot a hcp of 11 in the last competition and had 41 points, only to be cut 0.3. Is anyone else fighting their course's SS?

started at 30.5 and have moved down to 27.2 which i think is good progress and my form is still (touch wood) average so i might even get anothe cut this year!

Also sorted out a major grip fault and overswing with my pro just the ball striking now :o

Seasons goals have been reached and exceeded. Playing very consistently nowadays and my short game is showing signs of getting back to what it once was. Shooting low 70's on a regular basis now in comps and friendlies and i'm looking for that one really low round to top the season off nicely

Hi everyone. I have just joined the forum tonight. I went from 16 to 11 last year but finished season at 12. I am now hovering close to 13 (12.3) but feel some good form is on the way. I have had a few lessons this season and after struggling for a bit they have really helped me improve for the long term. I always think a lesson can often solve a problem in 5 minutes, instead of it being a struggle for weeks on end....! I am sure others agree?

Welcome on board and sound advise in your first post. I know there are those on here who wild horses wouldn't drag to a lesson but I think the majority will concur with your point. How often have we tried to self diagnose and fix and plunged further into desapir. Alternatively we plug away in the hope that it will finally click again. I think lessons with the right pro are the best way forward whenever it goes wrong. I'm not advocating lessons all the time but it is pretty obvious when a major swing fault has developed. Get a lesson and get it fixed early doors.

Happy with my year so far.
Started at 11.6, came down 2 shots in one go (11.6- 10.4)and currently 9.9.

Pleased to be at least playing to buffer, and have thrown away some fantastic rounds on a couple of occasions, but feel that my target for the year of Single figures is just around the corner perhaps.

Also in Semi Final of Club Knockout for Div 1 players, so high hopes there too.

Enjoying my Golf  :D

My "progress" has ended. Have become totally disheartened and put off by club matches and competitions, so I'm going to become a casual golfer, playing once every month or two with friends, and forget about trying to reduce my handicap and stuff like that. Much more enjoyable really.

Wow :( .... what happened?

Looking at your signature it has gone from 16 to 16.3 hardly requiring therapy sessions. I know its disheartening when you set goals and fail to achieve them but there is always little triumphs every so often. I went into tlast year off 14 and really thought I could get down to 10 by working on my long game. Wrong. I over committed, got to wound up in technique and I think only defended my handicap 3 times all year (buffer zone or better). You can imagine how as each round ended in disaster I would get more disheartened when my hard work never seemed to pay off. I didn't realise I was only grooming a couple of swing flaws.

This year less is more on the longer swing and I've really focussed on shots from 100 yards and in, chipping, putting and bunker work. It is finally paying off now and I feel more comfortable about hitting more greens and setting up birdie putts, and making more up and downs if I do mis-fire.

It might help to take the pressure of competitive golf out of the equation and so enjoy the social side with your mates and maybe try the odd stableford where one hole isn't going to lead to three hours of misery with even the buffer zone only a faint glimmer on the horizon
