whats your limit money wise for yearly golf fees?

Interesting thread alright..

I do think taking a % into account is sensible however I think it depends on the persons circumstances..

Granted the OP does not drink, gamble, smoke or mess about with the opposite sex so I take it he's single so therefore he would have more of a disposal income than a lot of us.

If it's your only hobby and one that you very much enjoy, I feel it's fine to spend in excess of the 10% of your yearly income as perviously mentioned.

If you want to join a top club be prepared to part with a lot of cash and although it might be a top club the members might not always be so forthcoming as in other clubs where economic backgrounds are more varied.

However whatever you choose to do make sure of one thing..Enjoy your golf.. that's what your paying your hard earned money for! Let us know how you get on. All the best.

i would like to state i do 'mess around with the opposite sex'. :o

I would imagine a top 100 club would still have a reasonable demand so a waiting list is prob on the cards. If you were to wait 2-3 years till you have the goining fee, you could still be waiting another 2-3 years to get in. I'd find out now.

I currently pay just under £800 for the two courses i'm a member at. This will be going up for 2011 as i just go into Nain so will now be paying over £900.
I'd pay more anyway. When i lived down south paid over £1000 for a very average course. ;)

Great to become a member of a top one hundred course, but you have also to consider is it a good club too.

You have already said you have lots of friends at your present club. You have got to make sure your going to get the same oppotunities to make friends and enjoy the social side of the new club.

Unless you want to play golf on your own for the next fifty years. So lots of research to do.

After reading this thread I'm packing up and moving. Around south london and the Kent/Surrey/Sussex border most courses exceed £1200 in membership fees and this is for "very" average courses , anything decent and your looking at £1500+. The only course I know under a grand is my local p&p course which us about £800, but being a p&p you still have to book tee times etc, hence I would never join this club

I was looking at leaving the local muni I play at this year, the club itself is totally on its arse. Just seemed to be no point when playing in comps which you are lucky to get a tenner for winning and every week is seems like a social club more than a golf club. Anyway, was thinking of spending up to £900 on Cookridge GC Leeds but with the VAT increase and no doubt interest rates increasing I think I will spend another season at the Muni to be safe.

Spend £382 for council season ticket for 5 courses 24/7 + £110 club subs.

ive played it loads love the course, and hear that the members are really friendly not snobby at all for a top 3 course of the UK. im not wanting to join just to say 'im a member of ' . plus i can be socialable with any one.(some of my customers are sewage workers others Sirs and Lords). there many fond memories from my younger days here. but there are other closer courses to me bogside, any of the gailes and barassie. will definetly look into it a bit further
