having played my best round to date a week ago, i have yet to get close to it but i have shot 100, 101, and 102 in the 3 rounds since, so just wondering what you would consider as being consistent?

Well you can take the CONGU buffer as a guide to consistency mate. For example, as a Cat 4 golfer you would have a 4 shot buffer on your handicap. So assuming you are playing a Par 72 course, with matching SSS, then you are playing to within the buffer of a 28hcp. So I would say thats consistent.

A Cat 1 golfer has only a 1 shot buffer so if I were playing with you I'd be happy with shooting 76-77 because thats in my hcp plus buffer.

I know where your coming from though, was your PB 95? I remember you mentioning it last week. Now you know that you can shoot those numbers you expect to go out and shoot it everytime, unfortunately that doesn't always happen mate. You'll shoot sub 100 again soon enough and then again and again, until you consider mid-90's to be your consistent area.

It happens to us all though mate, my PB is 67 and I've only seen that once, in 2006! I had a two 68's this year and a 69. (All this on a Par 69 btw). But I'd say my average round this year has been about 72-75 and I've been in that range more often than not this year which I'm happy with.

I Play off 8 and in 85 rounds so far this year I have averaged 9 over, most comps I have finished within my buffer and I have lost 4 shots this year off handicap so I would class myself as pretty consistent

Over my last 5 rounds, I've shot to my handicap 3 times, 1 over and 2 over respectively.

I know the area that needs improvement so I'm spending a little more time on the putting green.

My last 5 rounds have been 75, 78, 77, 77, 78, all gross scores, on a par 72 course, playing off 5. Decent, consistent, scores but driving me nuts not having posted something really good.

In my 76 rounds this year my average over par is +6.7 with my best being -4 under par and my worst being +16 (Blackmoor!!)

I've tied and beaten my handicap (5) 28 times and have shot +10 or more 15 times. I've gone under par 3 times and 35/76 rounds I've scored between +4 and +8.

Don't have a clue whether that makes me consistent or not...

It's fairly common for people to improve in plateaus and jumps. By that i mean have a pb improve by 8 or shots, shoot between new pb and old for a while (plateau) and then have a big improvement jump again. The lower you get the less scope there is for a big jump in performance and improvement tends to become steadier, although you can still see jumps when something clicks in the brain and everything gets a bit more integrated in your whole game.
