Having seen first hand the devastation caused by a driver (sober and drug free) doing 47 in a 30 mph when a young child runs out I have to disagree about speeding being a factor and not a cause.
A speeding motorist is as much a ticking timebomb as a drunk or drugged driver. There is no difference. There are probably more speeders than DD but because the law is targeting the DD and reliant on speed cameras and roadside vigils to do so most drivers continue to speed knowing for the most part in their locality where the cameras are and where police set up mobile patrols.
I'm pretty sure the statistics show that death by DD is actually falling whilst death by speeding (and neglience) is on the rise. I'm not going to go into the ins and outs but I just think you can't lay everything at the DD door without looking at habitual speeders. I've seen the effect and devastation personally.
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.
