Its been rather windy up here for the last week and a few comps up here were either cancelled on RO. I was at a loose end so decided to go over to Moray and play a few holes and walk the dogs at the same time.

5 club wind or more with the odd shower, it was horrible and gave up after 9 holes. Took my carry bag, which spent most of the round on the ground.

There was not a soul on the either course.

how bad does it have to be before you wont play?

It would be easy to say 'course closed' but the reality is a little different. If its known or virtually certain that I'm not going to enjoy it then I'll call it a day

Was you on the New course? Bet that was fun with a 5 club wind? Guess the 3rd was fun :D

If I start, I'll finish no matter what. Played Saunton East and St Anne's Old Links in proper storms* (driver to a 160 par 3!).

*thanks to GG waterproofs I was totally dry - other PPs were soaked...

Worst I ever played in was the final qualifying for my old club's Captain's Championship. Your best 3 scores out of 6 qualifiers and I'd only managed to put two cards in due to being away. The 'cut' was about 2 over handicap with the three cards and my two that I'd done were both around level, so knew that another one would get me in.

Went out with me and another bloke in the same situation. Sideways rain on the coast, was probably 2 degrees and if it was wind into, it was easier to hit a 150 yard runner than try and get it in the air.

We both got to the par 3 17th in good shape, and both made double ... ended up missing out on the final cut by a shot. But got in as a reserve on the day when someone didn't turn up.

Horrendous and wouldn't put myself through that again. Underwear soaked through despite several layers and waterproofs. Miserable.

started on the 15th saves the walk to the fist tee with two German Pointers straining on the lead.

15th was 5 iron wedge, 16th was 7 iron wedge, 17th was 8 iron and 18 was 3 wood and wedge.

1st, drive, 3 iron and a bumped 9 iron, 2nd was drive and 4 iron, and bump with 9 iron again. 3rd driver 3 wood 2 hybrid. 4th was 9 iron, 9 iron ( cross wind) 5th was drive, 5 iron 5 iron.

That was enough then.

Wind isn't too bad even if it makes my scores more like a cricket scorecard than a golf one but when its hammering down as well its just pointless as its just no fun :D

Some years ago I played in a BMW sponsored comp run by my local dealer with the winner going on to play at the London Club and possibly on further to Spain. Halfway through the round one of the worst thunderstorms developed with lightening every few seconds. My FC said that he'd happily stay out as I was doing well and, being ultra stupid, I said that id rather carry on.

The storm cleared after a few holes and I came first in my handicap category, I then found that the London Club game was when I was away on holiday and they gave it to the 2nd placed player and I nearly got myself killed and didn't get so much as a baseball cap!!

Same here, Wind doesn't bother me just find it fun, If its belting it down then I would rather be back in the clubhouse.

I was tempted to walk in after 6 holes on Saturday because of the wind. It was knocking the breath right out of me. The sixth, eighth and twelfth holes were all straight into the wind and were not any fun at all.

I won't play in heavy rain, I'm not a massive fan of playing in the wind and I'll pass if it's frosty.

Very strong wind I don't mind if the temp is ok.

Cold and wet I won't play in unless its a major comp, add some wind and that just sucks the fun out of any round.

If I have signed up for a comp and the course is open then I play as I feel obligated to.

If it is lashing it down then I would rather not bother, I don't enjoy it.

If it is windy or cold then I am more than happy to play.

If its a comp and the course is open then invariably I will tee it up (albeit Ill make my point known if I think the course shouldnt be open). Most winds are fine on their own, the odd shower is ok, otherwise wind and rain or heavy rain and I dont see muh point being out there in a bounce game. Oh and if the course is frozen I dont tend to play either
