Whats the worst conditions you would play in?

As a teenager I played in an Alliance meet at Muirfield.
One of those scudding 20 minute storms, 20 minute dry, constant gale days.
100 competitors and 7 returns, I finished 3rd with an 86.
Club Captain said it would probably be on of the best rounds of my life, he wasn't far wrong.

As earlier post. I've started so I'll finish.

Worst rain was Monday of our 5-day 2yrs ago, scorching hot until the 16th when it turned very black from nowhere and absolutely thumped down for the remainder. Of course we didn't have wet gear so everything was soaked through by the end of the hole. If it'd been a bounce game I'd have been off straight away.

Worst wind was last August, our 2nd is 330yds off the back, usually less than a full wedge in. Straight into the teeth of it, driver 4i into the front trap. Turn to the 190yd 3rd, 9i clean off the back.

Its been rather windy up here for the last week and a few comps up here were either cancelled on RO. I was at a loose end so decided to go over to Moray and play a few holes and walk the dogs at the same time.

5 club wind or more with the odd shower, it was horrible and gave up after 9 holes. Took my carry bag, which spent most of the round on the ground.

There was not a soul on the either course.

how bad does it have to be before you wont play?

Played Hopeman in 30mph + winds, wished I hadn't but wind on a links is a lot harder than parkland!

I played in horrendous conditions on the old course a couple of years ago, only started as it was the old course, it was so wet cold and windy it really spoilt any enjoyment. To top it all I was ill for about 6 weeks after, lost a stone and had to withdraw from several club and internet comps.

If the golf course is open I will generally play

Skin is waterproof after all :D

Started a Stableford early last season, the weather was windy when we started then torrential rain and wind as we progressed. Soaked thru by the 3rd hole and many people just didn't bother starting (whole other story about that) but we decided to continue as were probably as wet as were going to get. Finished but with a dreadful score (one of only 15 guys that actually finished a round ... Just over 30 paid to play, probably 80 originally planning to play) ... a week later got £32 for the only two scored that day :)

Worst weather possible for me was the freezing cold we played this last January, but with huge winds ... It was just too cold, and no matter how many layers of under armour and gloves and mittens, and two wooly hats, I couldn't do anything about the cold and didn't enjoy any part of it ... kept saying to myself it was good to be out (after all most clubs weren't even playing golf for these months) but it wasn't something I can recommend.

Wind isn't too bad even if it makes my scores more like a cricket scorecard than a golf one but when its hammering down as well its just pointless as its just no fun :D

I'm with Birchy on this. Wind / cold is fine - just makes more of a challenge and I internally go out with a 'see how well I can do' mindset rather than 'expect to play to hcp' approach so ends up a bit of laugh, esp if par 4s are D-3w-6i and then par 5 the other way are 3w-9i !

Heavy and persistent rain, no thanks, no fun and frustrating trying and failing to keep grips dry so club slipping etc.

If stroke play I'm not going to want to play if heavy rain and wind together - other than that high wind or rain on their own don't bother me much - cold doesn't bother me at all (it's not the temperature it's how you are dressed that matters)

If match play I'll play in any weather - it's probably going to bother my opponent a lot more than me - I've won matches because the other guy basically stopped trying because of us both being soaked through and freezing while I still did the best I could in the conditions.

If it's cold and wet, I really don't enjoy it and would rather sit inside and watch the box (not that it is a box any more). Rain in mid Summer when it's still pretty warm I'd have no problem with!
