whats the point in a rbz 3 wood?

Was hitting the rbz stage 2 3 wood today and it was only 10 yards shorter than my driver. Now, I can see the advantage of replacing a driver with this club but I thought the point of a 3 wood was to be shorter than a driver and bridge a gap. If I baught this club I would need a normal 3 wood too! The anser 3 wood was shorter than my driver by 30 yards. Surely thats more like it?

If you want length out of your Driver, put it back to its original length - you shortened yours (and now have 'more control'). Driver and RBZ 3 wood shafts must be fairly similar length.

If you want to gap from you Driver, then use the HL which is a 4-wood.

I found RBZ ok-ish and plenty forgiving but no longer than my 10 year old Sonartec.

I've just bought a cleveland mashie 14deg 3 wood with the view of using it more than the driver and on the occasion I need a 200yard club off the deck. If it goes further then great, I can always use the rbz 3 hybrid. I do however need to fill the gap between my hybrid and 5 iron so thinking of a mashie 23 m4

I shortened my driver? Not me mate. I have a standard anser driver

Apologies. Saw your post in 'Got my Driver shortened' but it was the first reply! :o

Statement re the HL/4-wood still stands though. (Even) easier to hit.

Maybe you are not getting the best out of your Driver either?

I have the RBZ II Tour 3 wood as well as a RBZ II Tour hybrid (thank you GM). I was loving the 3 wood when it was set to it's original 14.5 degrees and wondered if I'd still be able to hit it as well if I took the loft down to 13 degrees. Luckily, I do. I absolutely love it and it probably only goes 15 yards shorter than my driver. I also really like my driver, but our course is short and accuracy is of a premium. As such, I'm now only hitting driver on 3 or 4 holes (wind dependant) and the 3 wood is carrying out most of the other driving duties.

I know this might sound daft, but it's actually solved a gapping issue in my bag, rather than hindered it. When I moved the 3 wood to 13 degrees, I also moved the hybrid down to 16.5 to fill that 215 - 225 sort of gap. I like carrying a 3 iron as I feel it gives me more options in the wind (and I like to pretend I'm Tiger and attempt to hit stupid 'stingers'). Previously, the 3 iron and hybrid were too close and it made no sense having both really, now they all fall into place well with the 3 iron covering the 205 - 215 sort of range.

Long and short of it, my RBZ II 3 wood is currently may favourite club in the bag. Wanted to get more out of it off the tee as I don't need it much off the deck and have had nothing but success with it :)

as a response to others, all this, and learn how to use a driver properly .... :)

if your longest fairway club is 260, you can't expect to have a bag of clubs that sit 10 yds apart; it's not rocket science.

you are probably not going to be comfortable on all courses, in all conditions, with only 14 to choose from either - again, it's not a problem, you just make your selection from the 'big bag in the shed' and accept the gaps that brings.

In the case of the OP, it sounds as if the real answer on most courses would be to drop the driver!

(and yes, I have an RBZ Tour TP 3 in the bag - and it's staying there)

No, the point of any club is to help you go round the course in as fewer shots as possible. Does it do that? If so don't moan about it. If TM have made a 3W that goes as far as a driver and has a greater chance of hitting the fairway then drop the driver and put another wedge in.

Dear TM, I wish to complain about your 3W hitting the ball a very long way and in some cases as far as my driver whilst at the same time offering a greater chance of it being on the fairway. Could I have a refund please??

your missing my point. For eg, at 280 yards on our 10th there is a stream. As its down hill my driver often end up wet. Out comes the 3 wood instead! The trouble is I would probably reach the stream with that too. So I would need a rbz 5 wood or a regular 3 wood to stay safe

Heres an idea, grip down an inch and a half and you'll knock a further 20 yds off it with the same swing!

It's a crazy idea...but it just might work ;)

Not sure if its been asked dude as I haven't read all the replies but what driver are you using?

I wonder if the rbz 3 wood goes so far will the driver do the same???

Have you tried one?

Sundance has a RBZ 3 wood and he hits it better and further than his R1. I think it is a balancing act and if you can hit a 3 wood (irrespective of brand) far enough to be playable on most holes and more importantly can play from the short grass then why not?

i have a anser driver. The rbz driver does not have speed slot that seems to make the fairways so long

He hits his R1 like a girl though ;) (no offence to the girlies on the forum)

That's what I was thinking. TM are hardly going to reign in their 3 wood because it doesn't fit with the rest of your bag.

If you want to hit shorter than an RBZ 3 wood buy an RBZ 5 wood/hybrid. If you want to hit longer than your RBZ 3 wood buy an RBZ driver.

The driver doesn't have the same technology so the "distance gains" aren't the same
