Was hitting the rbz stage 2 3 wood today and it was only 10 yards shorter than my driver. Now, I can see the advantage of replacing a driver with this club but I thought the point of a 3 wood was to be shorter than a driver and bridge a gap. If I baught this club I would need a normal 3 wood too! The anser 3 wood was shorter than my driver by 30 yards. Surely thats more like it?

To my mind it would be the fact that the 3 is usable from the fairway mate not just as a driving alternative

I had a RBZ Tour 3w at 14.5 degrees a while back.
Went a mile
Off the tee and off the fairway
It left such huge gaps it was a case of change the RBZ or change the rest of the bag.

The additional loft will create a higher ball flight that has less draw or fade spin. This should give you a more controllable ball flight.

Thats what i'm saying. I dont want a 3 wood as a driving alternative I want a club that I can use of the deck and off the tee. but dont want it as long as my driver

I have recently dropped the RBZ 3 wood from my bag and replaced it with the RBZ 5 wood gives me a better set of options, still goes a mile off the deck or the tee and used more than the 3 wood ever was

Why wouldn't you want is it as long as your driver but maybe more controlled?

I would be pretty happy if I had a club to hit from the fairway that would go driver distance! Are these RBZ woods really that long?

Ive got the driver, 3 and 5. The driver is currently on the naughty step, and to be honest won't be going back in the bag anytime soon, I may even sell it. The 3w goes only a few yards less than the driver and is far more consistent. I also have a hybrid that bridges the gap nicely between my 5w and my 4i so no gapping issues. I did an experiment with my gps earlier, the 3w was going between 220 and 240 yards depending on run. Driver can be anywhere from 220-300, but with no real idea which fairway, or indeed county, it will end up in!

They can be - it just leaves a huge gap in your clubs.
My 3w was leaving my next club about 30 yards behind.
That's ok - just plug it with another club, but then I have to drop one form the lower end or re-space all clubs....
Too many manufacturers - and club-buying public - just don't get that distance isn't everything.
Consistent gapping is what you want....

There's a lot of holes on my course that have a lake, stream or bunker in driver distance. I need a club to lay short of these hazards. The rbz 3 wood would leave them in reach.

I have to agree with this. I have a steady 15 yards, five or take a yard or two, between each club, except my wedges, which have about a 10 yard gap.
If you have a bigger gap from your driver to your 3 wood then that's not such a big problem as long as you have the clubs in the bag to go for the green or set up the next shot right but the rest of the bag needs a nice even gap to make your life a lot easier with your second shot.

I have the RBZ II Tour 3 wood as well as a RBZ II Tour hybrid (thank you GM). I was loving the 3 wood when it was set to it's original 14.5 degrees and wondered if I'd still be able to hit it as well if I took the loft down to 13 degrees. Luckily, I do. I absolutely love it and it probably only goes 15 yards shorter than my driver. I also really like my driver, but our course is short and accuracy is of a premium. As such, I'm now only hitting driver on 3 or 4 holes (wind dependant) and the 3 wood is carrying out most of the other driving duties.

I know this might sound daft, but it's actually solved a gapping issue in my bag, rather than hindered it. When I moved the 3 wood to 13 degrees, I also moved the hybrid down to 16.5 to fill that 215 - 225 sort of gap. I like carrying a 3 iron as I feel it gives me more options in the wind (and I like to pretend I'm Tiger and attempt to hit stupid 'stingers'). Previously, the 3 iron and hybrid were too close and it made no sense having both really, now they all fall into place well with the 3 iron covering the 205 - 215 sort of range.

Long and short of it, my RBZ II 3 wood is currently may favourite club in the bag. Wanted to get more out of it off the tee as I don't need it much off the deck and have had nothing but success with it :)

I could have posted this myself! My RBZ 3 wood and driver go the same distance, the difference is that the driver is only coming off 6 out of 10 and if it a fades/slices the distance is dramatically reduced. On many of our fairways a drive 15-25 yards off line really does get punished which is killing me at the moment. I'm looking at taking the driver out of the bag and just going with the 3 wood from the tee. I don't tend to use the 3 wood from the fairway because firstly I find it harder to hit than the 5 wood and then if I do nail it, its usually too long! I love the 5 wood, so easy to hit and versatile off the tee or fairway. I have the tour version with 18 deg loft and a smaller head than the standard, but I find the smaller head easier to hit, feels like a hybrid but longer with a nice flight, even if you duff it, its still a 4i carry! I used to hate fairway woods but this 5 wood has really changed my game, feels like cheating. :D

I used my 3 wood RBZ stage one yesterday for the back 9 on every hole I could, and I was going just as far if not further and straighter than my driver! Accuracy was great, I set it on a line and it followed it. Out drove the furthest driver in our 3ball!

I went for the RBZ 3 wood HL. It has a loft more like a 4 wood, making it even easier to hit but fits well in the gap between driver and hybrid.

If ever I pull a 3 wood out to hit it off the deck, it's because infinity is my goal and it's only coming out because I can't hit my driver. I'd settle for the distance
