What's in your mind when you hit a good shot?

Found Bob Rotella's book "Golf is not a game of perfect" in a second hand bookshop and this is what he advocates, get a specific target in your mind, set up, look at the target, look at the ball and hit it. I think it is helping me now, my only thought when I swing is to end up in a good finish which helps me get through the ball.

My best ever round was when I was massively hungover playing with 3 of my best mates. 1 is a scratch player the other 2 28 handicappers. The whole round was a mix of trying not to throw up, loads of banter and laughs and no real care about shooting a decent score but just to enjoy the round. And I did. The high handicappers literally gave in after 10/11 and just concentrated on my game and the scratch player towards the last 4/5 realised what score I could shoot kind of guided me round but never told me my score.

Sam Snead is one of my golfing heroes with the best golf swing in history in my view and he advises having a couple of key swing thoughts as you prepare for the shot, pause, then empty your mind and swing "as loose as a goose." :)

I don't think of anything when I swing the club because that is what Slammin' Sam said is the best approach.

Played my best round i think 3 over, won comp out the park. Everyone wanted to know how i did it and my mindset, bet they wished they had never asked. My answer was "well my gran died yesterday and i was organising the funeral in my head. So basically i wasnt thinking about golf while playing

Played very well last time out (sadly a fortnight ago) and was in an air of tranquility and calm with nothing on my head at all. Very rare state of affairs and so hard to replicate regularly. NGT talks about imagery which has worked to a degree. but if I can find a way to keep thinking nothing over the ball that'll do for me
