Whats In The Bag...... And Why?

ping g10, proforce v2 stiff shaft 10.5 degree (traded in a hi-bore that i couldnt get on with)
Ping g5 3 wood - grafalloy blue shaft (great alternative of the tee
Macgregor M685 forged irons - rifle 5.0 shafts (love em)
srixon 56 degree , titleist oil can 60 degree wedges
currently switching beween an old ping anser and odyssesy two ball
Srixon ZURC ball (just as good but £5 cheaper than pro v1's

Going through quite a few drivers at the min but the g10 looks to be the answer . . . . until next weekend :)

Find this ball cuts up to buggery, or maybe it just doesnt agree with Ping grooves. Also wasnt to convinced with the feel of the putter, felt a bit hard.

Shock.......

Just traded my X20's in for a set of R7's. Know the guy at my local AG and these were an ex demo set and are in near mint condition. There is one slight mark to the toe of the 9 iron where someone has obviously hit it right out the end.

Mine for £350 (retailing between £450 and £499 on most sites I've seen) and and he gave me £130 back on the X20's.

Orginally went on the monitor and was hitting a 6 iron about 165 (about 15 yards over what I normally hit). I was unconvinced so took said 6 iron out onto the range. Her indoors was with me and she thought they were flying miles too.

Thought I'd better try a 4 iron (obviously much harder to hit than a 6) and a 9 iron to get some idea on trajectory on shorter clubs.

Have to say I was booming the 4 iron on a very low peircing flight. The 9 iron was also solid and I guess was around the 120 mark and not too high.

What can I say? Seems an absolute steal. I even got her indoors to buy me the new Taylormade TMX standbag.

the Taylormade R7 iron has a 2 degree stronger loft so your effectively hitting a 5 iron as opposed to a 6, probably why it went a bit further.

Thanks for that. Was totally unaware but I'll make sure I factor it into my club selection. Would also explain the lower flight which happens to be a good thing. Royal Ascot is very windy at times (another reason my X20's went - they flew too high).

Do you happen to know if that 2 degree loft goes all the way through to the SW or just on the higher clubs (3 4 etc)

That was a low blow on a Sunday. The simple answer is not yet. I'm off for a week soon and my pro has said he will have a look at my swing (I've a lesson in between so need to see what changes will be made) and get the fitting gear out and see. I have to be honest and say they felt a little flat but not sure 2 degrees worth.

Was only playing Homer. To be honest I was more interested in seeing if someone who has had clubs fitted, returned to standard clubs for whatever reason. (being someone giving custom fitting serious consideration)

No offence taken. Its actually an interesting point you made. I wasn't actually in the market for new clubs as my X20's were doing a good job (given the muppet swinging them). However something clicked in my swing yesterday which made me feel much more enchanted with the game and given the price and how well I hit them it seemed foolish not too.

Like I said I am going to get my pro to give the lie and loft a look just to make sure and I'll let you know. I'm planning to try them on the range one evening but the weather looks pants at the moment.

thanks for the response homer, I understand your purchase completely (real bargin)and with a bit of luck they will reignite your game. Also hope the weather allows for some range time with the new babies, and look forward to the results on the fitting dilemma.

Where do you play. Only course I played was just off the A1 somewhere. Think it was called Abbotsley or something like that. Was very open and quite boggy. We stayed in a travellodge nearby with just a pub around.

It was a long time ago and I was asleep on the journey up and very drunk in the evening so may be talking pish

Driver: Ping G10 9* with stiff proforce V2 High Launch shaft. Fitted at the St Andrews centre late last year. previously had a TM R580. Now sadly non conforming.

3-wood: Taylormade VSteel 3 wood (Stiff). Picked this up recently for £25. Probably the best value club I have in my bag.

Rescue/5 wood: Currently vacant. Hope to fill tyhis very soon. (Once I've made my mind up what I really need)

Irons: 3-SW Wilson deep Red II. Had these a couple of years now and they have served their purpose adequately. Will be looking to replace them probably at the end of the year when the Xmas bonus comes in.

Wedges: 60.04 Titliest Vokey Spinmill regular steel shaft. Needed something to get me up and down quickly when invariably I got stuck behind bunkers with big bugger off riveted faces.

Putter: MD Superstrong Bellagio Players Putter. Recieved with gratitude from GM towers on Friday morning. Feels good on the living room carpet. 1st test on Thursday.

Ball: Taylor Made TP Red.

Hat: Cleveland Golf cap signed by David Howell. (what else?)

Clubs

Ping Rapture 3 wood TCH909 stiff
" " 21 degree TCH909 stiff
" " 4-sw Standard Trutemper shafts with 1/4 inch thicker grips
All CF'd

Bronzy type Zing Ping offset blade £25 from a sin bin about 15 years ago

Not CF'd

Don't have a driver but then the 3 wood goes 225- 230 and at my level of experience it's placement not distance i'm after. £230+ for Rapture driver is a little lavish for me at the moment.

Bag

TM stand bag that spends it's life perched uncomfortably on a cheapo Masters two wheel pull trolley. Good bag until the 'brolley retaining strap snapped today - pah

Golf Balls

Argos NXT Tour lake balls - when you spray and pray- why pay?

Great off the face- easy on the joints.

Shoes

Some awful Hi-tec things that I thought would be the antithesis of 'spats' but seem to have razorblades buried in the heels. As soon as I can afford a pair of MyJoys it's kerosene and a match for these buggers

Extras (winter fatigues)

Fags(...and once suitably secured- cigar- i'm working on that one), lighter, tees, s. saver, jumper, DPM style cheap waterproof smock, beanie, chemical handwarmer, Diclofenac based anti-stoop back pain cream, ibuprofen, elastoplast strapping and cotton wadding (see shoes)- I get a rub on the right side of my middle right finger which the strapping is good for too, waterbottle , course crested pitchmark repairer cum marker, Harrods bar mat (haven't got the foggiest how I came by this) and about 15 pencils and a sharpener.

What a load of ***t eh? :(

Homer, Abbotsley has two clubs on adjoining 'parkland' courses, the Abbotsley (Hotel) and the Cromwell; one of which, if not both, was the Vivian Saunders club. They are about 10 mins or so off the A1 (minty18 is a member).
To get there you will almost certainly have passed Wyboston Lakes (my course) where minty and I are due to play this Friday. (He's never played Wybo, I've never played Abbotsley so whatever the result a return is in the offing.)

The lofts of the R7 irons are here.

The PW is 45 degrees so they are strong throughout the set.
