With so many of us now on this forum (its great to have so many new users) I thought it would be interesting to see who uses what and why they chose it?

Myself;

Driver - Taylor Made Burner TP 9* Stiff-Flex - Cos it was free from GM! And becuase it is a long, long driver.

Fairways - King Cobra F-Speed LD 3&5, A doddle to hit from most lies, good value, great quality components.

Irons - King Cobra FP's 5-PW (custom fitted), easy to hit, long for the type of iron they are. Look good, and a natural progression from my old Cobra irons.

Rescues - King Cobra Baffler DWS 3&4, because they are the best on the market in my eyes. Ultra-forgiving, long, quality shafts, good value.

Wedges - Mizuno Raw Haze 56* & 60*, these are as good as Vokeys in my eyes, they generate plenty of spin, will rust up nicely and are from a quality make with excellent shafts & grips and at only £39 each were a steal in my eyes.

Putter - Odyssey white-hot 2-ball, Old faithfull, I love this putter as it has served me well. Was fitted for the putter and it was a great idea, why not get fitted for the most used club in bag?

Ball - Titleist ProV1-X, I have changed to these now as I seem to hardly ever lose a ball nowadays. Before that it was NXT Tours.

Great idea, Jon :-)

Driver: Progen Full Bore M420 ti CCt 10.5* with Grafalloy ProLaunch Blue R flex. Had a cheap version of this driver with stock shaft. I loved the head, but the shaft was poor. Found this on eBay for 25 quid! I love the penetrating flight, but it's 3/4" too long for me so my clubfitter is going to shorten it and spine aline it for virtually nothing.

Hybrid: 19* Forgan Utility with stock shaft. Great head, crap shaft. It's in the bag because I really want to hit it well, but after taking with people about a possible 2 iron I've decided to reshaft this with something decent that'll give me a boring flight. As good as a 2 iron but more versatile. Grafalloy Prolite 35 going in it.

Hybrid: 21* Nike CPR. Great little club and my go too at the moment. Can easily hit it high or low.

4-PW: Macgregor V-Foil M565 with regular Graphite Design YS graphite shafts. Jury's still out on these. I like the profile and head shape. They're pretty forgiving, but I'm not sure about the graphite shafts yet.

Gap Wedge: 52* Wishon with TT DG R300. Built myself. simply a cracking wedge head. Better than a Vokey etc. for a fraction of the price.

SW Mizuno MX-15. Kept this when I sold my mizzy irons because it's great from the sand.

LW: 60* RAM Tour Grind. Cracking little club for a tenner. Saves me as many shots as it loses me, but may change to something in gunmetal soon as it's a dazzler in the sun.

Putter: Stix solar 2. Very heavy critically balanced putter. Now I'm used to it my stats are improving as is my confidence.

I'm an MD nut. Apart from the bag Ogio Edge, on a clickgear trolley.

Driver: MD Superstrong EQL 10.5deg Graffalloy Prolaunch Blue S flex.

3 Wood: MD superstrong 15deg Graffalloy Prolaunch Blue S flex. My goto club for tight tee shots, very rarely used of the fairway.

Utilities: 18deg Graffalloy Prolaunch Blue S flex. 21deg Steel s Flex, the extra weight of the steel shaft help me dig in the rough.

Irons: MD superstrong forged originals, 2- PW only carry 5-PW, use the 2,3,4 on the range. Custom 2up +1/2. S300's

Wedges: MD superstrong 54 and 60. Great feel.

Putter: Spalding centre line, I know it's old, but I like the look and the weight.

I like my bag at the moment, good setup for me and didn't cost the earth.

My set up is..........

Driver- none slice tooooo bad to even attempt

Fairways- TaylorMade V Steel 3 Wood, why because they were half price at DG, long off the tee (longer than most of my mates drivers) and doesn't slice too badly)

Irons- Mizuno MX17's bought them because they were only £180 in AG, nice and forgiving even with my dodgy swing!

Rescue- Cobra DWS bought this friday played monday and love it from tee or fairway

Wedges- Lynx GW nice to look at hard to hit so only use for half shots, Old maxfli 64 LW which I love for high shots strangely I feel really confident with this club in my hands

Putter- Benross SR3 Goose neck with an insert don't know whether its my stroke or the club but it's either best friend or worse enemy!

driver- Wilson staff Nd6 9 deg stiff
3 wood - Wilson staff Pf6 13 deg stiff
Mizuno hi-fli clk 17 deg hybrid graphite stiff
Bridgestone J33 hybrid 21 degree regular
4-PW Callaway x-18 pro series DG steel regular
53 deg and 58 deg wedges Mizuno MP T-series Ni
Putter - Never Compromise voodoo or Ping G2i Anser - can't decide.

I'm happy with this set up, I need the stiffer flex in the graphite long clubs but the DG R300 is stiff enough in the irons.
Only club that is currently being 'watched' is the driver, got a great price on it but not yet totally convinced but I haven't had any driver practice really. It didn't go great at Blairgowrie on Scottish forum day but there were a couple of drives where were it went long so sticking with it till I've had a few games then make a decision. Ping G5 keeps calling me!

This is whats in the Mad bag;

Driver: Cobra F-speed LD 9* with stiff aldila nvs 55-s shaft. It sounds god awful but puts the ball up the park further than any other I have had.

3-wood: Ping G10 15.5*. This has really surprised me as I got it to test for GM and honestly love it and its the first Ping club I have ever had in my bag.

Rescue: Hogan CFT hybrid 4H ..... for sale @ £25 to anybody.

Irons: 3-PW Cleveland CG$ tour with S300 shafts. got these after the horror period in my life with Cobra forged irons. I love the Clevelands though as they have saved my game.

Wedges: Cleveland CG11 52 and 56. I love them as the 56* is my 75yd shot and my 52* is my 100 yd shot so fills the gaps of not having a sand wedge.

Putter: Odyssey White hot XG No.7. Again not the sexiest looking club in the world but the feel you get off the face is second to none.

BAll: It has to be the Titleist Pro V1.

Well, it's there in the sig.

Why?

Toyed between the Mizuno driver and a Ping G5, got the Mizuno and liked the consistency to the 3-wood. On the hybrid, tried a few and none felt as good as the CLK and again had the consistent feel.

Irons, bought these 2nd-hand last summer after deciding I was overdue a replacement. Bought them blind and have to say, they play beautifully (although I do need to change the grips at some point - pink uppers!) and will use for some time (or until GM send me something to try instead, nudge nudge)

Wedges, quality wedges that look good and respond well. I have 52/56/60 and select two of three for the bag course and conditions depending.

Putter - J_F's shortened Odyssey worked a treat in Bahrain but was shite back on grass! Sticking with it for the foreseeable future.

Balls (and to you mate), fed up of just playing anything, plumped for the NXT/NXT Tour mix and the results have shown the merits of playing a regular and quality ball.

The reasoning behind the ever changing GB bag is as follows:

Driver: Made many mistakes buying ones I could not hit. Went to see a clubmaker as a last resort who built my Orka Kii with a 13 degree loft and and a slightly shorter shaft. This has been a revelation and is now the most consistant club in the bag. Only problem is that I am now losing distance in the wind so pro has recommended I get a lower loft club to practice with and eventually use. Will look into it when funds permit.

3 Wood: Benross V6 Trimass. Had a bit of a punt on this as needed a longer second shot of the fairway. Only cost £40.00 and has surprised me with the quality. Can be a little inconsistant so not guaranteeing that this will last the season.

5 Wood: Nike SQ: Bought the old model for my wife at a bargain price and had a couple of hits. Liked it so much I bought myself one. Is my most consistant club off the fairway and my go to club if the driver fails or on tighter par 4s.

Hybrid: Orka Kii 4 Iron hybrid. Bought it as the rest of their kit suited me. Feels really sturdy and gives quite a low ball flight so is usefull in the wind. Also seems to get the ball out of most rought and is great out of fairway bunkers

Irons: Orka Kii: Went back to the clubmaker after he sorted my driver. These seemed to have a bit more feel for a cavity backed iron without losing forgiveness. The wedges are particularly sound and seem to have improved my short game. Fitted with Nippon 950 pro shafts on the recommendation of the clubmaker.

Gap wedge: Orka FK2: They do not do a gap wedge so went for this to fill the PW/SW gap. Seems pretty good so far and has a hex cut into it to effectively give 2 levels of bounce.

Lob Wedge: Nike Tour SV: The club I should probably leave at home more often. Produces some great shots when it works but my skill level means it produces its fair share of scuttling missiles accross the green.

Putter: Benross SMC: Used to have a Ping UGLE but was not working so gave this a go for £28.00. Superb club and the smaller face encourages accuracy. Great alignment aid as well and an interchangeable weight so can be made heavier on slower greens.

Ball: Inesis TD Tour. Only available in Decathlon stores, these are basically rebranded Bridgestones. Up there in quality with most premium balls at only £15.00 a dozen. If anyone gets a chance to try these I urge you to give them a go.

Mmm, interesting the amount of stiff shaft users.

My driver is Srixon Zti 10.5 standard flex with a Yamakachifugikarahonda shaft. It’s loud. In fact I hate the sound, but I love it.

Taylor made 3 and 5 Vsteel Mk2 woods.

Taylormade R7 3 to PW irons with TM own ultra light regular flex shafts. Have I not said, they’re custom fitted. Lamkin grips.

Loads of wedges but I usually use a 52 and 56 TM RAC satin.

Got four putters. The one at the moment is a Ping Zing 29inch shaft jobby with a offset grip fitted……the thumb flat is deliberately offset to the putter face. I’ve lately been trying my 35 year old Lee Trevino blade putter again and it’s sweet. Got the face cleaned up and milled at my work, it looks the dogs.

Ball, well, Pro v, NXT, HX tour.

Callaway ft-i 11 deg regular. Must be about my 8th driver in two years. Driving has always been my achilles heel, not now. The ft-i is as idiot-proof as you can make a club!

Srixon M-Steel 3 wood, stiff. A weapon, goes for miles, low penetrating flight.

TM Burner Rescue 3, regular. Only had it a couple of weeks, great club, really easy to hit, sits beautifully behind the ball.

TM R7 TP 4-pw, regular. Newest additions two rounds old. Very forgiving for "better players" clubs, great feel off the face.

Cleveland CG10 52, 56 & 60 degrees. got the 3 of them for £90 at Christmas, a great investment. Short game has improved significantly since using them.

Ping Zing Redwood/Odyssey Two Ball. The Redwood is a beautiful putter, far superior to Scottys IMO. Switch to the 2 ball, if my putting goes off, or for faster greens. I find a change is a good as a rest.

Srixon Trispeed. Been using these since their launch. Just purchased some NXT Tours, will try those, and, I have just acquired some TM Red and Black LDP balls, tour issue at the moment, looking forward to trying them (hopefully this weekend weather permitting).

This is fun, and its infomative as to why people choose the clubs they do - cost/spec/availability etc. Here's mine:

MacGregor Eye-O-Matic 11 Degree 420 Driver - have a fondness for MacGregors as my first decent irons were MacGregor Tourney. I like this due to the size of head, but also at £40 a bargain;

3 Wood - old Ping i3 bought 2nd hand from AG - absolutley love it even though it is a bit old and hit it consistently well from the tee;

5 Wood - MacGregor Mactec NVG - my fondness/weakness for MacGregor;

Irons - Adams A2OS Hybrid. 3 & 4 iron hybrids, 5-pw cavity irons with graphite shafts. have only been to range with these as only bought recently from DG for £25 (yes, £25!!!), but like what I see on the range.

Wedges - Vokey Oil Can 54 & 58 bought new for £30 each, but really like their consistency if I swing well.

Odyssey White Hot No4 - liked them in the shop and found one on ebay for £40 with titliest scotty cameron headcover. Have taken about 4 inches off as hold down the putter shaft.

Balls - bought some Inesis ND Tour (allegedly their Pro V1 equaivalent!!) but haven't used them yet. Recently PTS Solo.

Thats all folks.

Driver Ping G10 (regular) 10.5 degree. Changed from Cobra LD as used this in a hire set on hols and just hit it really well, and quite long (mostly 240-250yds) LOVE IT!!!!

Taylormade VSteel 3 wood (regular). I quite like it but not sure so maybe changing to Ping G10 as well. When I'm playing well tho this thing is great and I can hit it almost as far as my driver.

Lynx Blackcat 5 wood (regular) Because it was free from GM and goes well off the deck. (do not have it in the bag everytime tho).

Yonex 4Hybrid (regular) An absolute steal at £60. Yonex have just brought out a new one so I picked this up cheap. Tried the Cobra and the Ping but this one just suited me more. Bought specifically for our 2 long Par 3's but now using off the deck (no longer carry a 3 iron).

Mizuno MX-25 irons (steel regular) Love them, great ball flight, more forgiving longer irons. In my opinion a real players set of clubs.

Wedges Srixon 56 and 60 degree. Not convinced may upgrade to Vokeys (and would probably opt for 52 and 56 degrees if I changed).

Putter Odysey White Hot Mallet. The only putter I've ever owned and never considered changing.

Ball ProV 1 (enough said). Does everything it says on the tin.

Driver Callaway big bertha 460 10 degree regular, recent addition tried it and is so much straighter than the old 1.

3 wood adams tight lies 16 degree regular nice off the deck of the tees.

3-pw taylor made rac ht just so easy to hit and forgiving.

52 degree taylor made tour prefered Not sure about this one but i keep trying with it.

56 degree a trust old wilson that needs replacing.

Putter Wilson blackjack tried it and could not miss paid for it and dont think ive holed one since!!!! it is destined for the shed me thinks..

Ball HX tour 56 at present nice soft feel.

Driver-Cobra F speed 440 10.5 deg Stiff flex..best buy ever!Had it 3 yrs now.

3 wood-Taylormade v steel 15 deg S flex Fujikura.Had this 3 yrs now!

Hybrid-Ben Hogan EdgeCFT 20 Deg S flex.Great out of everywhere,again had it 3 yrs.

Irons-4 to PW Callaway X 20 Tours R flex-had them 3 mnths and cant wait til new season as I am loving them!

Wedge-52 deg Cleveland CG11.
Wedge-56 deg Callaway v forged gunmetal-spins like f##k!
Wedge-60 deg Cleveland Tour action 588-great 4 sand.

Putter-Taylormade Monza Corza Rossa-Been booted from here to Timbuktu but somehow remains in my bag!

Ball-Bridgestone tour b330 or Srixon z-urs-like them both but they both seem to have trouble dropping into that hole.

Mizuno mp600 Stiff Fujikura with weighting set to neutral (might try the draw bias this weekend) Was on trial for the GM Team writeup and havent been asked for it back yet so its going to be a strong man that gets this out of my grip now. :D
Nike T40 4 wood standard firm shaft, bought it as it felt nice, goes fine too.
BB Plus 5 wood 65 series shaft firm, distance and consistant draw is brilliant with this club.
TM RAC LT irons with rifle 6.0 shafts, I sometimes think a set of slightly softer 5.5's would suit me more but were the only available set at the time of looking.
Mizuno black Ni 60 degree 4deg bounce, great for tight lies and bunker shots.
Titleist 56 degree 12deg bounce spin mill, spins and consistant, nothing else to add!
Scotty Cameron Newport platinum pro Putter, Ive sanded and polished the face down as I didnt like the dirty look of the milled face, had it for a couple of years now and is still my weapon of choice from the fringes etc.
MD Golf EQL Stand bag, lots of hidey holes, light and dual straps make it a breeze to carry.

Callaway Big Bertha 460cc - Regular shaft and 11 degrees. Bought it when I returned to playing golf properly. Had a Wilson fat shaft 10 degree but the head was only 400 cc and was so hard to hit well

Callaway Big Bertha 3 wood - regular shaft 15 degree - present from the wife for my birthday last year

Callaway steelhead + 5 wood - metal shaft - old favourite had it for years. Needs a new grip but still going strong

Cobra Baffler DWS 3 hybrid 20 degree - regular shaft. Bough it last year as I was struggling with long irons. Great for long par 3's as it comes in high and soft

Callaway X20's - 4-PW (SW included but don't use it). 2 degree upright - steel shafts - recently traded my old X14's in for a newer set. Tried loads at AG for a custom fit and these were the ones I hit best and most accurate in terms of dispersion. About 5 yards a club shorter than my old X14's and not sure whether that is because I'm playing badly at the moment

SW - Ben Hogan Apex (gift from GM for submitting an article) 56 degree with steel shaft. Great club especially out of bunkers. Find myself playing sand shots with more confidence

LW - Titleist Vokey (oil can finish) 60 degrees and face rusting nicely. Great for a shot from <40 yards. Nice smooth full swing and it flies high and stops dead

Putter - at the moment a sore subject was using an odyssey marxman mallet style - 34 inches but not behaving as it should

Thinking of going back to my 34 inch odyssey dual force 554 withthe softer black insert or my original ping anser. Not playing this weekend so will be on the putting gree looking for answers

Bag - Callaway Eurotour cerry bag black/silver

Glove - Foojoy Sciflex (several colours)

Ball Titleist Pro v or Callaway HX tour

Shoes - Foojoy Dryjoy black and Hi Tec CDT black/white

Apart from the standard kit what else do you ALWAYS carry with you.

I have a smally tupperware box with toilet paper (in case of emergencies!!, immodium - i use to suffer with bad nerves, several large plasters - for blistered feet, strips of plaster for blistes on hands, a strip of neurofen and scissors. It lives right at the bottom of the main zip pocket with my rain hood.

I also always carry a rain glove (becomes tackier and better as it gets wet) in case of showers and a spare leather glove.

Always have a drink in the bag. Also carry a large bag of tees pencils and ball markers (way more than I need just I never take the bag out)

Driver: Ping G10 10.5* with stiff proforce V2 High Launch shaft. Recently had a fitting session and tried 6 of the best new / current drivers. This was, for me, the best.

3-wood: Ping G10 15.5* with stiff Prolaunch V2 High Launch shaft. Picked this up shortly after getting the G10 irons. It was in the pro shop and I took it out for a round to try. Quite simply I walked off course after the round and paid for it, enough said.

Rescue: 3-R Cobra DWS Baffler with aldila nvs 55-stiff shaft. Was recommended to me so I took a punt. I have yet to hit one better to make me doubt my purchase.

Irons: 4-SW Ping G10 Irons - Silver dot and 1&1/2" long stiff AWT shafts. I set my mind on these as soon as I saw first magazine review on them. Once I had been fitted and tried them I loved them. Since getting these handicap has tumbled.

Wedges: 60* Titliest Vokey Spinmill with regular steel shaft. Wanted a new 60* wedge to fill gap for less than 100yard shots. So far I am on a learning curve with it.

Putter: Odyssey White hot Marxman. Bought early doors when I came back to golf last spring. Might be getting changed soon for the new MD golf putter or a Ping Redwood.

Ball: Currently in play is the Taylormade TP Burner LDP. New ball and I quite like it so far. Not decided yet if I will revert to Pro V1x for new season.

Bag has ended up very heavily Ping biased without any real intention to do so. They just happened to be the best I tried and I got on well with them. So to top it all off they now live in a Ping bag too!

King Cobra F/Speed - I needed some cheap fire power, not really firing at the moment.
Benross V6 Trimass 3 wood - Needed a decent 3 wood and this beauty is one of my favs in the bag at the moment.
Callaway Big Bertha 2004 5 wood - I was given this by my uncle and its great from the rough, I can not hit it straight but aim left and it seems to get there.
Mizuno MX 19 3-SW (custom) - New to the bag and I have just completed my first round with them and after a few holes it feels like I am getting somewhere with irons.
Srixon WG-706 52 - Bought second hand for $40 and fills the gap and is a great wedge at a even better price.
Yes! Tiffany - Tested for GM and fell in love with her.

Srixon AD333 - Great mid range balls that offer spin and distance.

What else do I always carry?

like you homer there is always a bit of TP in the bag. I have to carry immodium because of my medical condition (never know when the tell-tale pains will start).

Apart from faecal related items; 2 bananas, a sports drink, a bottle of water, a piece of chocolate, some peppermints & some painkillers.

I also carry a basic first aid kit comprising of some plasters, a bandage, some medical tape and some antiseptic cream.

COBRA X speed- I had an f Speed absolutely loved everything about it but i wanted a lower ball flight so i got an x spped because it has a high kick shaft, i liked the idea of the face being 0deg aswell because it teaches me to hit it better.

Newport putter- Had a two ball thought it was Shite so wanted a traditional look , this one had the best weight to it.

Ping G2 Irons- They got a good review, I prefered them to the Callaway Big berthas to hit although i prefer the look of the big berthas.

3wood- Being honest i bought this when i knew nothing bout golf i just knew callaway was a good make so i got this didnt have a driver at the time.

Titleist vokey wedges- I like the swingweight and appearance, i still like my old Ping MB still but i get a bit more spin form the Vokeys

PING G5 Rescue- 16 deg, I hit this and the baffler, this one felt more versatile i could hit high shots, low shots... Belive it or not i could even slice the hell out of it too..lol

NXT Tour- Use these as cant afford to lose prov1X but as jon says im losing very few now
