...IF you won the lottery and could literally play unlimited golf whenever you liked, have whatever lessons you felt like, equipment wasn't a consideration and you could even chase the good weather around the world if you felt like it.. literally all things being perfect what do you feel you could achieve with your game?

Mines still dropping at the moment and I play more than enough golf to not want to play any more than I do now.

I practice several times a week and play about 3 or 4 full rounds per week through the summer. I have 4 qualifying rounds this week and have played 2 bounce games already.

As I said thats more than enough for me and I have aspirations of getting down to 2 maybe 1 handicap , wouldnt make any difference to me winning the lottery in fact I would hate it and thats why I dont waste my money on it.

Still, might as well go in for it, then if you win you could get new clubs and I'll have your hand me downs.....

Oh...........

Personally I'm not playing enough golf - 4 full rounds this year I believe, so I could do with a couple of mill in the bank to ease things a bit.

I think with regular golf I could get to single figures, but until I can learn to drive it 260 - 280 I don't think I'd ever have a good enough short game to carry me all the way down to cat 1.

Well done for getting into the spirit of the thread dodger :D

Oohh, dream time.

I reckon a serious course of lessons on full swing, private putting tuition every day for a month, a few short game lessons....

6-8 h'cap easy. Maybe even lower with a hour in the gym everyday.

Depends, if the work/tuition yields more birdies than my current average of about 0.75 a round, then maybe 5, but unlikely.

I know deep down that I don't possess the natural ability to ever get to scratch or better but would like to think with unlimited tuition and regular playing with good quality gear that I could play and be happy off around 3-4

I'm not entirely sure I'd be happier being better. I know guys who play off these figures and it seems to make them less able to enjoy the game, because if they go round 10 over, they feel worse than me going round in about 90.

I'm guessing though that with the lessons on tap and regular golf the desire to become as low as possible disappears and I'll reach a plateau. I've tried the assistant pro thing and it was very clear even with pro help on tap and playing and practicing I wasn't good enough. I'll be happy to get down that low but wouldn't think it the end of the world if it started going back up either. I think the trick is to enjoy the freedom a lottery win gives you and just enjoy it for the game it is

Well, not wanting to blow one's trumpet, but at the start of the season I was struggling to play to 24, now with work being quiet and me being able to play 2-3 times per week i've seen my handicap tumble and i'm expecting a handicap of about 14 when I get my first official one tomorrow.

I've had rounds of 78 & 79 already this year, and i'm regularly hitting low 80's now and I havent had any lessons since 2006.

I reckon, given unlimted time to play and have lessons I could get down to mid single figures by the start of next season and, due to me absolutely loving the game and having the desire to be as good as possible, I could get down to scratch before not too long.

Ah....the voice of a man who's never properly considered just how hard it is.
I know teenagers (assistants) who play every day, practice every day, have huge talent, a pro at their disposal and want to be scratch players. Hardly any ever make it.

i would be practising so hard and playing so much that i wouldn't stop until i felt like i was plating tour quality golf and even then i would still carry on

Well having played off 8 before with no help I reckon 2 or 3 shouldn't be a problem. I'd love to get to scratch but as Dave says life starts getting very hard when you're that low - no margin for error at all.

Yeah I'd like to retract my earlier statement of scratch. I think hitting 72 and getting a scratch handicap are two very different things. I would like to think I could get to sub 5 handicap, but hit the odd par round when I play well :)

Fair point....am I allowed to say 2 or 3 then? :D

I think I would play off 11.

I can't think why it would change.

I don't want lessons, I don't really practice because I get bored, I have the sticks I want already, I play alot anyway, I would just play better tracks, which would probably be harder, so if anything, I would probably go up.

I'd love to be able to play whenever I wanted, and throw everything at it.

BUT, I think I'd tire of it quickly.

At 10 now, I'm confident that I can perhaps get down another few shots, but its a tough slog with so few shots to spare, and I'm sure it becomes quickly more & more frustrating the lower you get.

If I can get to Single stats once, I'll be content that I actually did it. :)

Lessons certainly, realistically best I think I could hope for may be mid-teens, I started late.

It's the play whenever and wherever that attracts me. Follow the sun,
