Following on from the "who's got the biggest peni5" sorry drive thread recently.

What would you be happy with distance wise if you were consistently hitting the fairway. I've recently ditched my driver and was able to sling my 3 wood at a ball and maintain a total distance average over 2 rounds of 257 yards. That's left right and centre through. Played my last round and tried something new. Hot 12/14 fairways and was only in light rough on the other two. Only averaged 203 yards though. So, would you settle for less and the gain of accuracy?

Your 3 wood average is 257 yards? Your peni5 must be huge!!

Personally to guarantee a fairway hit everytime I would accept 240-250 without even thinking about it and probably go to 230.

You average 257 yards with a 3 wood and hit 12 out of 14 fairways!?

I take it you are off scratch at least then?

That was over two rounds where I was literally smashing at it so I could not the difference in distance versus accuracy and decide which was better for my game. That's total including roll and was on rock hard fairways and like I said a lot left and right. But from tee to final resting place it was in fact that distance. Like I said afterwards, I was happy to lose 50 yards and be in the fairways so distance is not important to me.

I think you've misunderstood. I averaged 257 going very left right and straight with no consistency. I averaged 203 when I went for accuracy and hit 12/14 fairways.

I wasn't being serious mate, ive no reason to doubt your distances and only an insecure person would feel the need to question a complete strangers honesty on an internet forum.

But do you think that's realistic? I've had to accept a good 50 yards loss of distance for nigh on guaranteed accuracy.

No such thing as guaranteed accuracy in my book.
I can hit it 270 but not often where I want it.
250 on the short stuff is a good compromise.

Still doesn't mean I could do it.

I'm rarely so far off the fairway that I'm out of play - and that's about 240. So I wouldn't want to give any distance up.

Another 20 yards would be great and still wouldn't be in real clag, 20 yards again and accuracy would need to improve seriously.

I can hit anywhere from 240-280ish with the driver, I've had a good few 290-310 yard drives (S3 measured) this year but to have a guaranteed average with accuracy I'd take 250 any day.

Ill admit these distance threads bore the 💩 out of me!!!

Ohh to stir I hit a 4 iron 250 yards the other day with a shabby old yellow range ball

Small Print...

On a second floor driving range onto what can only be described as hard carpet allowing for 50 yards roll to the back of the range

We have 14 non par 3s, I will use my driver on maybe 4 of the other 14. 5i, hybrids, 3woods etc for the rest. If the balls in play youll score well.

Most of the better golfers ive played with realise this and dont worry overly about distance. Most dumplings smash drivers all over the place and blame the rough.

240 middle of fairway sounds good to me. Who's got the magic wand for this spell please????

No-one????

Oh well back to the trusty 4 iron then!
