Seen a few posts form people on the for sale section and on other places regarding changing the shafts on their drivers/clubs.

I've been thinking about this since I went for my AG fitting for the hybrids I won on this wonderful golf site. although am likely to go and get my swing speed etc measured again for the driver before any purchases I was just thinking what to take into account if I was to change mine. Can you buy any shaft and it fits on any club ? How do you change them ? Pro shop, diy ? Whats the deal here ??

Cheers

Clubs like the Titleist 910 and Taylormade R11 that come with adjustable heads also have the capability of switching the shaft in and out, all you need is to have the right adapator on the end of the shaft and anyone can swap them over using the wrench.

For non adjustable ones then its a case of getting a pro to remove the old one and then reshaft it. If its not a shaft with an adaptor on the end then all you need to do is make sure the shaft is the right tip size for the clubhead (drivers usually 335, can also be 350 or 370)

Edit, just seen you have a Nike VR driver, pretty sure this is adjustable so in your case I expect it would be a case of making sure the shaft you get has the right adapter on the end of it (or getting a bare shaft and a pro to fit an adaptor for you)

Cheers Fundy, Mines is a Nike VR Str8 Fit Driver 10.5* and has an adjustable head, should that be one of the easy ones to change the shaft then ?

When you had your fitting for the hybrids & 3 wood Hendo what shafts did you end up with? Do you now have different shafts on those clubs to your driver which is why you want to change because you have noticed a difference and if so what differences have you experienced.

Good topic mate as I am being told by all low handicappers I play with that due to the pro slowing my swing down so much lately my stiff shafts no longer suit me!

They also say it doesn't matter what head you've got on the end, the shaft is THE most important factor, would you agree?

I have TM RBZ 3w, TM 2.0 Burner 5w, K15 3 & 5 hybrids all with stiff shafts but don't know if its viable to change the shafts or weigh them all in against regular shafted clubs!

I have a quick ish swing and play regular Fish, I have tried stiff but not my cup of tea. better to swing easy with a reg than leather it with a stiff imho. I would maybe speak to your pro and see if he has soe you can have a try with and see how it goes before splashing any hard earned

I tried a 3w regular i15 when this was being pointed out to me the other day on our 17th and it felt more comfortable (less forced) and I sent it further and even with a nice bit of draw exactly where I wanted, up the fairway beyond the marker around 230 yards!

I was fitted out by my club pro at Christmas and went with his advice and had stiff shafts fitted now only to be slowed down and now they apparently don't suit my swing!

Not a happy bunny.

In my opinion, some people today have it the wrong way round.....
Fitting the shaft to the swing...but then what happens when you change your swing as above....new clubs/shafts please.

When I learned golf, you bought a SET of clubs and you learned how to hit them ALL.
No fancy wedges, no adjustable drivers, no hybrids, just practice and a bit of talent.
Dont get me wrong, the advancements in technology are great with the new materials and head design, but trying to improve your game by constantly changing shafts/clubs to suit your swing is a alien to me.

Call me old fashioned but I would rather see someone improve their game by improving their swing, not changing clubs every 5 mins.

This would be my only change Bob as I am only 15 months into this great game and I was fitted out so I thought I wouldn't have to change for years to come, if at all as I could develop my game knowing I had the right clubs to suit me!

I think the mental side of the game is huge and confidence is a huge factor and it is a given that stiff shafts are designed for faster swings, which I did have but now I've been slowed down considerably. So, with being repeatably told that my shafts are too stiff for my current swing that plays on my mind at the tee.

I think there has to be a balance with the old thought process and the technology that now surrounds us as we all want to play to our best ability and if there is something in the available technology that irons out or assists a remedy in natural flaws that we may have, then why struggle on if practice with a basic off-the-shelf set doesn't seem to be helping matters!

I don't have deep pockets but I do want to enjoy my time on the course and do as well as I can after starting a little late in life so if that means a change of shafts, then so be it but I respect all opinions.

It was just the hybrids I got fitted for and am sure the guy that fitted me told me that I was right in the middle between reg and stiff, I ended up with Funuki 75x4ng Flex-R shafts, Am hitting these clubs very well, 3 hyprid (21*) I reacon am getting about 220 from it and regularly hit it well. My driver has a Aldila Voodoo SVR6 shaft and although I hit it well too most of the time I recon am getting about 250-270 out of it.

Am just not sure what to do here, my 3 wood and 5 wood are in the locker at the moment and I don't carry them much anymore but I was just wondering If I changed the shaft on the driver would I get more from it, Its just something that is niggling away at me at the moment.

Gibbo, Cheers, I'll take a nosey :-)
