I'm looking to get one more good course in before the season ends and was wondering what your suggestions are, has to be close to a train station from Glasgow and not overly priced below £70
Looked at that there seems decent enough and not overly priced and I can get on at the weekends too good shout patMaybe Monifieth... thats next to a station i think and is always dry that was under £70
Check the club websites. Prestwick St Nicholas, Irvine, Barassie and Royal Troon Portland course are all around the sort of price you are thinking about. Thanks, I was thinking about down troon way but fees are a bit much on some and with the weather changing I'm not to sure about links at this time of year, keep the suggestions coming I'll consider most courses
There some great options mate thanks, I'm going to play at least one of the courses listed on the thread in the next couple of weeksCheck the club websites. Prestwick St Nicholas, Irvine, Barassie and Royal Troon Portland course are all around the sort of price you are thinking about.
This is the best option Chris. Glyn and I played it a few days after we saw you and Jacko_G at Dundonald. Very nice course. Proper members place where they can't do enough for you.I'd suggest Barassie.
Lovely track, railway station is less than 50 yards from the clubhouse door. You are also welcome to another game at Dundonald. Just let me know dates and see if we can fit it in.
You will enjoy Barassie. Troon municipals do not float my boat at all any more.
I agree about Barassie, but if Chris hasn't already played the Darley or Loch green, he should try them over the winter, they'll be far better than most non links coursesI'd suggest Barassie.

I know we'll defo be heading down for a few games over the next few months with Dave, maybe he'll organise a mini meet, for us non connoisseurs.
Usually cost about £15, we usually get £3 of that back, that'll float my boat

Agreed, the Council haven't invested like they did in the past, when Doon fae Troon was the man in charge .They'll not be far better than where he plays.
Despite the sarcasm dripping out of your post I'll reply. It has nothing to do with being a "golf connoisseur" and everything to do with them being extremely poor now compared to what they once were. I played Darley last about 3 years ago now and it was just untidy and lacked TLC. I was stepping over dog poo every hole and at one point had to wait for 25 minutes as about 100 school kids decided to cut across the course on their way home.
Compare that to the heyday of Troon Municiple when they were in tremendous condition, definition, greens in fantastic condition, bunkers with rakes and a bit of pride.
The council should have invested the clubhouse money into the course and greenkeepers.
