Evening folks,

Went for 11 holes this afternoon, and i noticed i kept hitting a poor sort of shot, always with my irons....mainly wedges around the greens. Ive never hit this sort of shot before, i was almost hitting the top of the ball, and hitting it very low and left.

When hitting these shots, my swing just felt horrific, but i couldnt pin point what i was doing wrong.

Any help??!!!?! :confused::mad::confused::mad:

Guessing you're a right hander? If so, sounds like you may be hitting it off the toe of the club which is turning over or shutting through impact. Did it feel kind of 'tinny', like the ball was hard rather than soft? Could be you're hitting behind the ball and the club is closing. All of this is guess work but try focusing at a spot just ahead of the ball and chip aiming to ground the club there - many people know you should take a divot ahead of the ball yet aim at a point on the ground behind it. It may help you out :)

Yeah youre pretty much bang on there mate. Makes sense too, as i hit a couple of bad long shots after catching the ground first!

So when youre hitting an iron shot, do you look at the grass just in front of the ball?

not giving you any swing tips on your short game but there is a piece in this months Golf Monthly about your short game, By a guy called Dave Pelz. Apparently he's some kind of short game Guru.

I read it and usually I get a bit lost with "in to out swing planes"' and such as and etc etc. But this piece on short game was excellent. Strange thing is that a lot of what I read tends to go in one ear and out the other, but for some reason a lot of what he said stuck. furthermore, when it came to pitching and chipping around the green in the last two rounds since reading it I have remembered what he had to say.

i have every intention of trying to get from 21 hcap down to 18 this year and everyone keeps saying work on your short game so his piece came along at the right time.

Your aim for this season is literally the same as mine - 21 ----> 18!!

Is it in the mag, or the website??

what kinda length shots? from just a little ways of the green, these just chip shots or pitches?
where are your hands on the handle, where's the ball in relation to your stance, what's the angle of the shaft at address?

I only really need to with short game, with a full short I tend to get my weight through the ball pretty aggressively anyway causing the bottom of my swing arc to be ahead of the ball. This bloke does though and he tends to strike the ball ok most of the time (sorry about the volume level, you'll need to turn it right up to hear what he's saying)

Deffo mag page 60 onwards. It's the April edition. Not sure about the online version. But I think it is exactly the same as the mag. And good luck.
