i recently switched the 4 iron for a 24 deg hybrid. not because i couldn't hit the 4 iron well, just that i can hit the 4 hybrid a fraction better and the flight is higher which helps for the two greens on the course i really need that length of an approach shot.

however, i never really checked the relative carry distances and i think the 24 deg flies a few yards shorter than the old 4 iron. will need to get both clubs out on the practice fairway to compare...

I have a 2-iron that I strike really quite well...but put a hybrid in for more forgiveness. Tempted to put the 2-iron back in though!

I think I would respect myself more if I had a 3 or 2 iron.....

i had a crack with a new mizuno 2-iron off the tee and it went well. looking down instills fear in the common golfer. it surprised me though.

Off the tee I don't think I would feel to dominated but off the deck I might... strange really as I hit a 3 wood off the deck all the time, longer and steeper. Its all in the head hu..

Until I swapped my bats recently, I carried 3-SW, but my new irons (4-GW) have such strong lofts that the loft on the 4 iron is the same as my old 3 iron.

When I were a lad, it was all the range to carry a 1 iron as a junior. Definitely as a status symbol. The number of bags you'd see with Mizuno TP5s and TP9 blades, but with a Ping 1-iron was funny. Nobody fancied the 1 iron in the blades, funnily enough, except to butter toast.

How many do you carry? Hybrids that is..

Up to three depending on the course. I have a 21º, 24º and an 11 wood

Not being a long or consistent hitter I rarely get shots into the green that would need 3/4/5 irons & still outweigh the other benifits of the hybrids

Normally a 3i but with the fairways firming up a bit might drop the hybrid a throw in the 2 iron superb I the tee and a lovely soft fade from the fairway.

Ps should it not be longest iron?

carry a 09 burner 3 iron which is same loft and length as a non burner 2 iron. if they made a 2iron (effectively 1 iron) id buy that in a second, i dont get on with hybrids

Currently a 4 iron as my new set was 4-PW (didn't have the cash to get the 3 at the time), but I do have a 2 iron that goes in sometimes from an old set. I'm a fairly confident long iron player.
